JOB DESCRIPTION

The Vice President, Global External Communications for Chubb is responsible for developing and deploying communications strategies globally. The successful candidate will be an experienced media relations and financial communications leader, with a background in the financial services sector, preferably in the insurance field. S/he has been highly effective in a global, complex and highly matrixed business environment and publicly traded companies.

The candidate will oversee and closely manage the execution of Chubb's media relations agenda that is explicitly linked to, and clearly supports, the overall objectives of the company and its leadership. As an experienced media relations counselor, this person must have the ability to work with and advise business and functional leaders, including the senior leaders, while also having the required drive to own the media space and operate as the go-to external communications leader and functional/center of excellence expert. S/he must possess deep, proven experience in media relations, including issues and crisis management globally, and long-standing relationships with the media in the financial services space, particularly with the top-tier media.

At the same time, the individual will be directly involved with and/or responsible for a range of financial and investor-related communications, including the development of the annual report, quarterly earnings press releases, financial information within company brochures and presentations, in print and online, working closely with the company's finance and investor relations teams. As such, the individual should possess solid fluency with financial and accounting terminology and principles and support the global communications team for all official Chubb financial communications-related content.

The Vice President, Global External Communications will report to Chubb's Chief Communications & Marketing Officer and have a secondary/'dotted line' relationship into the Global Head, Strategic Content & Insights.

This role will sit in our 550 Madison Ave New York, NY office.

Primary Responsibilities


  • In coordination with senior leadership, the ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing a media relations and financial communications strategy that is aligned with business objectives and ensuring that it is integrated and consistently articulated and adhered to.
  • Oversee media relations efforts and proactive outreach globally; coordinate and manage media efforts across regions, businesses, functions, partners and sponsors with a focus on promoting Chubb's products and services.
  • Work closely with the Global Strategic Content & Insights Center of Excellence to promote both long-form ("reports") and short-form ("articles") thought leadership with earned media, podcasters, content creators, and influencers.
  • Take an agile approach to developing interview and journalist briefs, key messaging and interview preparation in advance of media interviews, as needed.
  • Closely manage the review and approval processes for all content destined for the public domain and for all speaking opportunities at priority events and industry conferences. Additionally, play an active advisory role in helping to identify premium conference speaking opportunities.
  • Manage financial communications for quarterly earnings and other public company financial announcements; support writing components of investor-related corporate communications materials.
  • Ensure that the communications, marketing and investor relations strategy is seamlessly aligned - driving collaboration and integration across the broader organization to maximize results, while mitigating and getting ahead of any reputational risks.
  • Ensure the reputation of the firm and its brand is always of utmost importance; media experts are fully coached and prepared in advance of each media interaction.
  • Take a lead role in facilitating multi-regional discussions and best practices with Chubb media relations practitioners globally.
  • Coordinate with Chubb's media intelligence and social listening team to garner real-time insights to effectively manage reputational issues.
  • Stay apprised of news and trends that impact the insurance/financial services industry and topics of importance to the company; actively monitor both existing and emerging issues that could impact brand and develop strategies for addressing each issue - this will include working closely with 24/7 social and media monitoring teams and activities across regions.
  • Build best practices, policies and procedures to ensure consistent approach for managing media events, press releases, launches, road shows, promoting products and services to name a few.
  • Effectively position the executive leadership team as thought leaders and spokespeople on important topics that are strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen and an ability to build, evaluate and maintain relationships with key strategic partners in and around the media.
  • Help evaluate and modernize the company's newsroom on chubb.com.
  • Develop and maintain top-of-the-house (TOH) messaging for dissemination to business and marcomms partners globally. Be the owner globally of Executive bios, company stats and other relevant files and data points, ensuring they remain updated, accurate and consistent.
