Essential Responsibilities

The Senior Injection Molding Process Engineer is responsible for engineering activities focused on injection molding and extrusion processes. This role involves process design, optimization, troubleshooting, and innovation for polymer-based products. The Senior Injection Molding Process Engineer ensures consistent quality, efficiency, and reliability of manufacturing processes while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.


  • Develop and optimize injection molding and extrusion processes to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.

  • Design, test, and validate tooling, equipment, and processes for new product introductions.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot production processes to resolve issues and improve performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving measures.

  • Lead investigations into process deviations, root causes, and corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and company quality systems, including ISO 13485, FDA regulations, and customer requirements.

  • Manage supplier relationships for tooling and raw materials, ensuring quality and delivery timelines are met.

  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for polymer processing.

  • Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance teams regarding molding and extrusion equipment.

  • Lead projects related to process development, scale-up, and commercialization of new polymer products.

  • Analyze data to identify trends, improve process efficiency, and reduce scrap rates.

  • Contribute to a safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and conducting regular risk assessments.

  • Ensure materials compatibility and evaluate raw materials to meet performance requirements.

  • All other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may include indirect supervisory responsibilities, including oversight of technicians and production team members involved in polymer processing operations.

Work Environment

This position operates in an office and manufacturing environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.  The position interacts with devices that are sold by the company. It also requires interaction with extrusion and molding machinery and includes exposure to raw materials and production equipment.

 Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, general business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position may require occasional travel to supplier locations, conferences, or other manufacturing sites.

Required Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • 2-5 years of injection molding or extrusion experience (regulated industry molding/extrusion experience preferred) OR engineering master’s degree


  • Proficiency with CAD software and statistical analysis tools.

  • Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 13485 and FDA regulations.

  • Experience following work instructions, process documentation, and procedures to ensure safe working conditions

  • A team-driven attitude to work together and support department initiatives such as 5S.

  • The ability to complete production paperwork, which includes inventory accuracy.


  • Medical device industry or regulated industry experience preferred.

  • Scientific molding (e.g. RJG Master Molder) experience preferred
