Job Responsibilities:
About the Role: This position will manage U.S. Federal and State income tax compliance and tax provision processes of the Magna group and lead or assist in tax planning initiatives as they arise.
Your Responsibilities:
Manage discrete aspects the U.S. Federal and State income tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate preparation for quarterly estimated payments
Manage aspects of the annual and quarterly income tax provision processes of the U.S. Group, identifying and implementing opportunities to reduce the effective tax rate, and validate and ensure the accuracy of tax account balances and compliance with SOX404
Assist and/or lead U.S. Federal tax planning projects
Regularly seek to identify, drive and implement process improvements within the Tax Department
Research, analyze and document tax issues as they arise and ensure that all working papers are audit-ready
Coordinate and collaborate with other Tax Department Managers to utilize available resources in the most efficient and effective manner
Assist in responding to and resolving inquiries by Federal, State and Local Taxing authorities, including tax audits
Clearly communicate issues, opportunities and solutions to Senior Management and other team members
Learn the business and the corporate organization chart, and identify and engage key constituencies throughout the organization to build effective working relationships and further Tax Department objectives
Handle other assignments, as required
Who we are looking for:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
8 years of Corporate Tax compliance experience with managerial experience is required.
Solid knowledge of Federal Domestic and State tax laws and ability to perform research and document facts, issues, and conclusions
Demonstrated experience in and understanding of tax return processes and possession of strong financial accounting skills
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
Follow the principals of the Magna Employee's Charter and promotes the Open Door Policy
Develop, manage, motivate Junior Team members
Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing and resolving problems
Experience managing and developing a team of tax professionals
Experience with OneSource, OneStream, Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, Alteryx, and newer data and visualization applications
Skills/Knowledge:
Federal and multistate corporate taxation, including large consolidations, and tax accounting methods. Familiarity and experience with international tax a plus (Subpart F, E&P, foreign tax credit, dual consolidated loss, and Forms 5471, 5472, 8858, and 8865)
ASC740, FIN 48, APB 23 and US GAAP accounting
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Ability to juggle multiple projects/assignments and meet deadlines with available resources
Strong project management skills, especially ability to drive through to completion
Your Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Tax-related degree and/or CPA
Outbound (Foreign) tax experience
A mix of industry and public accounting experience
Indirect tax (Sales & Use, VAT) is helpful
