The Director of Graduate Admissions provides leadership and oversight of all recruitment and admissions activities to ensure a high-quality prospective student experience which ultimately converts to matriculated students. The Director will be responsible for the collaborative design and implementation of a multi-faceted student recruitment and graduate enrollment management strategy that increases student enrollment and effectively attracts high-quality applicants to ensure that the educators who graduate with a master's in education from Bank Street are among the best prepared, most dedicated, and most effective teachers anywhere. The Director will work with the Dean, Associate Deans, senior leadership and other faculty to ensure that student recruitment goals are met. The Director will report to the Associate Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success and will supervise a two-person Admissions team. The Director will be responsible for the following work:
Recruitment Strategy
Develop and manage recruitment strategy for increasing enrollment across 52 programs in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and partnership-based; engage key stakeholders in designing the strategy in order to meet the needs of the Graduate School at large
Oversee recruitment process, which includes garnering interest, forging relationships, providing information, admitting students, and following up to convert admitted applicants to matriculated students
Collaborate with Graduate School Chairs and Program Directors to understand and position programs accordingly
In collaboration with Graduate School leadership, develop partnerships with external entities to recruit cohort-based programs
Leverage data to inform recruitment strategy, make decisions and adjust strategy in real-time, as appropriate
Measure return on investment of recruitment strategies
Develop new strategies in response to outcomes and overall market conditions
Identify new markets for recruitment
Prepare and share regular data reports to inform Graduate School leadership and Program Directors
Manage prospective student leads; regularly review and share data with academic counterparts for planning purposes
Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to inform marketing strategies, and launch campaigns, including multiple social media channels
Oversee and conduct online and in-person student recruitment events, including scheduling and presenting at information sessions, planning with Program Directors, and leveraging industry contacts; when necessary, travel to event locations
Manage vendor relationships as needed to deliver on matriculation goals
Respond to external requests for information about the Graduate School, including gathering necessary data; oversee promotional and informational copy for publications such as guides and the academic catalog.
Admissions Operations
Lead and oversee rolling admissions process each semester, including leading a comprehensive evaluation and review of applications, admitting students, and tracking and converting admitted students to matriculated students; collaborate with other relevant Graduate School offices to ensure timely and accurate admissions of prospective students.
Collaborate with Graduate School colleagues to support Bank Street partnership admissions, ensuring a high-quality prospective student experience for partner students.
Manage vendor relationships, such as with the Bank Street call center partner, in order to ensure a coordinated and consistent follow-up effort and a high-quality prospective student experience.
Monitor adherence to admissions policies, procedures and practices, including compliance with all federal, state, and city laws, regulations, and ordinances
Oversee management and maintenance of prospective student records to ensure accuracy and access
Continuously evaluate systems and processes for efficiency, accuracy, and improved student experience; make recommendations and execute enhancements as appropriate
Maintaining the admissions application and CRM system, making updates, building queries and working with IT to ensure the connection across Graduate School systems are working properly.
Prepare relevant admissions reports including applicant conversion and demographic information; provide data internally and externally as necessary and appropriate.
Serve as liaison to department chairs, program directors and senior management regarding admissions activity and applicant status.
Supervision and Student & Faculty Support
Supervise and develop two Admissions staff members to ensure timely, accurate, and caring support to all students, staff, and faculty
Respond to prospective student, staff, and faculty inquiries and connect them to appropriate resources as necessary
Oversee all communication and resources with students, staff, and faculty regarding Admissions business in collaboration with Graduate School communications team
Serve on Graduate School committees and attend leadership meetings as relevant
Support institutional decision-making; identify potential issues before they escalate
Support Associate Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success with special projects as assigned
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualified candidates will have solid knowledge of best practices in marketing, student recruitment and enrollment management processes with proven experience using data to guide enrollment strategies. It is vital for the qualified candidate to implement and apply the latest data gathering and analytic tools and techniques to increase student enrollment.
6-8+ years of progressive responsibility in student recruitment and enrollment management for on-campus and online programs. Recruiting and managing enrollment of teachers/leaders pursuing a master's degree in education is a plus. Strategies for conversion of admits to enrolled students is a plus.
Successful track record of leading and supervising staff to generate and enact marketing and recruitment activities that will draw high quality candidates. Experience executing campaigns with and managing a call center relationship is a plus.
Master's degree, or equivalent experience required.
Proven track record in best practice student recruitment/enrollment management processes as well as hands-on experience with strategic data/ records management systems.
Creative thinker and problem solver with strong interest in program development and design as well as enthusiasm for recruiting and personal contact with potential students.
Strong leadership, analytic, management and people skills. Excellent track record working collaboratively with faculty, administration and potential students.
Excellent public speaking presence, strong interpersonal abilities, strong written and verbal communication skills.
Solid understanding of teacher/leader preparation programs, including certification requirements for teachers and school building leaders; knowledge of New York State requirements is desirable.
Experience with SLATE Admissions and CRM systems preferred, experience with BlackBaud and PowerFAIDS is a plus.
