The Pathology Laboratory Assistant utilizes technology to perform job duties, documentation, and communication. The Pathology Lab Assistant manages/processes body fluid specimens, requisitions, order entry, and sending out specimens. The assistant accessions specimens, identifies tissue samples and accurately documents in EMR specimens received. This position recognizes and investigates problems and engages in courteous communication both in person and on the telephone. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
Essential Job Functions:
Handles tissues specimens and storage. Processes body fluid specimens and prepares specimen aliquots. Ability to stay organized, prioritize, initiate actions as needed with good judgement, problem solving skills and shift gears in a busy environment.
Receives specimen and verifies accurate specimen and requisition labeling. Manages patient and specimen encounters, order entry, accessioning, and send outs.
Ability to work in team environment and independently.
Prioritizes and organizes heavy workload situations.
Ability to multitask without compromising accuracy and quality.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, and courteously to support team members and patient care.
Recognizes problems, investigates, and takes corrective action, documents problem and and response, and notifies supervisor in a timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Education:
• Preferred: Associates - Related Field
Work Experience:
• Preferred: A minimum of 1 year Related Experience
