Primary Role
Responsible for all the day to day collection of water quality samples, laboratory analyses including quality checks, and calibrations of equipment, and chemical receiving including using the chemical receiving app, quality control of sample, and offloading the chemical.
Implements programs to ensure compliance with all water quality and environmental regulations.
Assists in resolving treatment issues.
Investigates water quality complaints and determines course of action needed.
Key Accountabilities
Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects.
Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators and customers. Identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations.
Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment, etc. to ensure established standards of performance and accuracy are maintained.
Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed.
Investigate and respond to escalated water quality complaints or concerns.
Responsible for planning, preparing and controlling the portion of the financial plan relating to responsibilities.
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations.
Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods.
Must understand principles of water and/or wastewater treatment and be able to troubleshoot systems.
Sound business acumen and judgment.
Effective quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
Effective verbal and written communications skills (e.g., report writing, listening, and presentation).
Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, team building, cooperation, leadership, ability to motivate others.
Must be able to work in an agile, fast paced, and dynamic environment and be comfortable with constant change.
Ability to interpret scientific reports and documents such as MSDS sheets and communicate technical information.
Experience/Education
Bachelors degree required.
Minimum Five (5) years' experience required, preferably in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations.
Travel Requirements
Local and regional -- an active, state driver's license required and ability to pass a motor vehicle background check during pre-employment.
