Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

Under the general direction of a Fleet Supervisor, the Fleet Technician I performs inspections, maintenance, and both minor and major repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including automotive, construction, agricultural, and small engine-powered equipment. This position also troubleshoots and diagnoses issues, as well as executing repairs by disassembling, replacing, and overhauling various systems.  

This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of our 24/7 operations.  

Requires availability for emergency call-in. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 


  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses issues for various types of vehicles and equipment to determine necessary repairs. 


  • Performs minor and major repairs on vehicles and equipment, including disassembling, replacing, and overhauling various systems. 


  • Conducts regular inspections of fleet vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. 


  • Executes welding, fabrication, and minor body repairs as needed to restore equipment functionality. 


  • Completes maintenance reports and records accurately to track work performed and materials used. 


  • Assist in ordering and managing parts and supplies necessary for maintenance tasks. 


  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks to ensure a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reporting potential hazards. 


  • Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS 


  • In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Such assignments may be before, during, or after the emergency/disaster. 


  • Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS) 


  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 


  • One (1) year of experience repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, such as automobiles, trucks, or lawn maintenance equipment.  


  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification, including A or T Series Brakes and Suspension, or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Due to Certification testing availability, time may be extended.  


  • Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 


  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver License. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 


  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, vehicles, and electronic systems. 


  • Knowledge of relevant codes, rules, regulations, and requirements pertaining to fleet maintenance and operations. 


  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety regulations, standards, and equipment to ensure a safe working environment. 


  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 


  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside the Authority.   


  • Ability to handle restricted, sensitive, and confidential information.   


  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service, serve the public, and represent the Authority with courtesy and professionalism.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES  


  • Continuous standing & walking.  


  • Sitting up to 6 hours per day.  


  • Frequent lifting up to 50 Ibs or more.  


  • Continuous bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, dragging.  


  • Reaching overhead, kneeling, crawling & climbing up to 6 hours per day.    


  • Typing up to 6 hours per day.  


  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather and noxious fumes.  


  • Continuous exposure to chemicals.  


  • Frequent exposure to insects.   


  • Navigate very frequently heights and confined areas.  


  • Continuous use of light truck.  


  • Continuous use of heavy equipment.   


  • Very frequent use of power tools.  

COMPENSATION

$25.55 per hour
