Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides family peer support services to parents with children that have behavioral health challenges and/or mental health diagnosis within the school system who are in need of support in navigating various systems. Supports families within the school system with resource connection, mentoring and coaching.
Primary conduit for referrals to Behavioral Health through sharing lived/shared experience. Builds and fosters relationships with parents and caregivers to reduce stigmas associated with mental health, behavioral health and treatment services.
Completes needs assessments for families and provides resource connection (food, housing, transportation, etc.)
Conducts parent outreach activities within the school and communities, including home visitation for hard-to-reach families. Facilitates and supports the establishment of parent networks within the school community.
Establishes a collaborative relationship with team members and other key stakeholders in the school as a means to facilitate the behavioral health referral process and build cooperative relationships within the school environment.
Supports the coordination of Beech Acres Parenting Center hosted events and activities based on the needs of the priority population in partnership with the Beyond the Classroom Team Lead.
Provides support to school-wide and student population specific events and activities and assists in making recommendations to the school(s) based on experience and learnings from the parents and children they serve.
May lead and/or facilitate parent group meetings, trainings, etc.
Works collaboratively and cross-functionally as a school team member to ensure holistic needs of kids and families are met.
This role is school based in nature and may require work outside of standard business hours to support family events, school events, parent meetings, client needs, etc. Travel throughout the community and to BAPC campuses is required
Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Certification in Family Peer Support through OHMAS
Bilingual in Spanish language strongly preferred or willingness to take courses paid by Beech Acres.
High School Diploma or equivalent + Shared experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with a developmental disability or behavioral health or mental health diagnosis.
Willingness to share personal lived experience with others to build relationship and support ongoing family involvement.
Familiarity with community resources and community wrap-around philosophy.
Intermediate computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
Ability to work collaboratively to support the team’s achievement of shared goals and outcomes.
Must possess active Ohio Driver’s License and maintain agency required auto insurance of $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident, and $100,000 property damage.
