Job Summary


This is a full-time position reports to the Manager of Client Services. The Computer Lab Technician is under general supervision and is primarily responsible for the deployment (repairs, maintenance, installation) and support of all computing devices and related equipment at the college.


The operating environment includes Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, macOS devices, cloud-based applications, and networked systems. The college infrastructure comprises Windows and Linux servers, a gigabit Ethernet local area network (LAN), and wide area networks using TCP/IP, fiber-optic connections, and VPN technologies. The environment also includes cloud-based server solutions such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.



Job Duties



  • Installs, configures, and tests new computing hardware including Windows PCs, Apple MacBooks and iMacs, and laser printers.

  • Installs, configures, and tests system and application software including Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS, Linux, Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other common software packages.

  • Identifies and repairs faults in computing hardware; if appropriate, coordinates warranty repair of faulty equipment.

  • Diagnoses and resolves software issues, including operating system failures, application errors, and cybersecurity threats.

  • Integrates computing equipment into the college network, ensuring proper security configurations and access management.

  • Responds to client requests for service by phone, ticketing system, or in person and troubleshoots hardware, software, and connectivity issues.

  • Assists in the development of computing equipment specifications, deployment procedures, service standards, and documentation.

  • Provides advice and training to faculty and staff on the use of computing equipment, cloud-based applications, and cybersecurity best practices.

  • Maintains records of inventory, work orders, time tracking, and system documentation.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Associate degree in Computer Technology or a related discipline, or at least six (6) months experience as a computer technician or technical support help desk analyst in a networked computing environment.


  • Regular travel between the two main campuses and satellite site locations within the two-county service areas may be required.


  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Knowledge of current computing technology, including Windows 10/11, macOS, Linux, and cloud computing services such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.


  • Knowledge of modern networking technologies, including wired and wireless networking, firewalls, and VPNs.


  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot a wide range of IT issues.


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and engineering drawings.


  • Ability to work independently, evaluate situations, and make informed decisions.


  • Ability to install, repair, and maintain computing equipment, including desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices.


  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and contractors.


  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
