Nature of Work
Represents the legal interests of Cerris and its subsidiaries in all business areas, with a focus on contract and other legal issues related to construction operations. Works with members of the Legal Department to provide legal expertise in areas of contract review and negotiation, research, document drafting, and dispute resolution. Administrative responsibilities included in work functions.
Essential Responsibilities
Review and negotiate commercial contracts, particularly construction-related contracts like prime contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
Work with legal team and business partners to address legal questions and disputes arising from construction projects, including contract interpretation, claims, and liens.
Provide legal advice to various departments on a broad range of general business matters as they arise related to construction, corporate, regulatory, employment, and business law, including varying laws and rules applicable to the company's multistate footprint.
Support subsidiary and corporate leadership in legal issues arising in daily operations.
Conduct legal research in accordance with business needs.
Manage and assist outside counsel when retained for litigation or other matters; includes assisting with responses to discovery in litigation.
Provide internal training on various legal topics.
Exercise initiative in assigned matters and, as directed, perform additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in contract review and negotiation, and in dispute resolution.
Prior experience with Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tools preferred.

Education
Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA Accredited school. Member in good standing in the State Bars of Kansas and Missouri, or ability to become a member of those Bars.
Experience
3-5 years of work experience required. Can be in private practice, in government work, or in-house.
Prior experience in construction law preferred, particularly with drafting and negotiation of construction contracts.
Physical Demands & Working Environment
Physical demands for this position are moderate. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending or carrying of items (25-50 pounds) such as plan documents, papers, books, parts, etc. There may be times of physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing or similar activities. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. Requires a good ability to see, hear, and speak
Work is conducted in a standard office setting with a requirement to be on-site five days a week.
