This position is responsible for daily servicing of all RTD vehicles and equipment as well as 'dumping' farebox revenues from the farebox vaults. Daily servicing involves checking, filling 'topping off', and recording all fluids, performing daily cleaning, sweeping, dusting, and mopping. Also includes driving and parking of vehicles, cleaning individual piece parts and sub-assemblies using various chemicals in a safe and professional manner while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work area. Removes ('pulls') and replaces revenue vaults from buses, which requires heavy lifting in a repetitive manner for an extended length of time. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the Drug and Alcohol policy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL


  • Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD, working effectively in a diverse work environment, using prudent judgment at all times, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality of services to all external and internal customers.

  • Services RTD vehicles, which includes, but is not limited to, checking and 'topping off' all fluids, checking tire inflation pressure and re-stocking Bus Operator supplies.

  • Performs visual inspections of RTD vehicles to identify vehicle damage and/or mechanical problems and reports such issues to supervisor.

  • Performs all phases of interior and exterior RTD vehicle cleaning, which includes, but is not limited to, windows, walls, floors, ceilings, dome lights, hand rails, seats, upholstery, gum removal, graffiti removal, trash removal, air conditioning condensers, accessibility lifts, and wheels.

  • Records all fluids consumed on fuel sheets in an accurate and legible manner.

  • Operates and cares for all shop equipment and tools in a safe and professional manner.

  • Operates RTD vehicles while in strict compliance with RTD policies, directives, and procedures and all Federal and Colorado traffic laws and regulations. This includes using proper defensive driving techniques.

  • Relocates RTD vehicles and directs incoming traffic into the RTD division.

  • Maintains current knowledge of and adherence to all RTD operating policies, directives, and procedures.

  • Removes bus schedules and monthly brochures from the on-board bus schedule racks and stocks new RTD approved monthly brochures.

  • Cleans individual piece parts and sub assemblies, which includes, but is not limited to, engines, radiators, brake drums, battery compartments, chassis, and wheels.

  • Installs and removes interior RTD approved signs as directed.

  • Performs job duties using various chemicals in a safe and professional manner following RTD safety policies, directives, and procedures as well as following manufacturer instructions and environmental guidelines.

  • Interacts with RTD staff and the public in a courteous, professional manner when conducting transit bus trades.

  • Removes ('pulls') and replaces revenue vaults from buses in accordance with established procedures.

  • Prepares vault pulling records and reports all malfunctioning revenue collection equipment

  • Prepares receiving documents for armored car service.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age.

  • Not more than five (5) points assessed against motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past two (2) years as well as possessing a continually valid driver's license for the past two (2) years. Also no DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 24 months.

  • Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate for a minimum of a 2-year qualifying period and then maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate thereafter.

  • Ability to pass a RTD required Physical Ability Asssessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a current valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License with an air brake and passenger endorsement (Class B-P2).

  • Ability to obtain certification as a qualified forklift operator within ninety (90) days of hire or within the 90 day qualifying period.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to employ standard defensive driving techniques.

  • Ability to climb in and out of buses and safely performs strenuous pulling and lifting of up to 80 pounds (without assistance) of about 100 vaults per shift.

  • Demonstrated ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and push/pull and lift up to 80 pounds in a proper safe manner.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces, awkward physical positions, and at various heights.

  • Basic knowledge of automotive preventative maintenance requirements.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which can include working various days, hours, and shifts.

  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing, using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation with RTD employees, armored car personnel and supervisors to maintain schedules and ensure secure effective

  • service and cooperative relationships.

  • Ability to read and write English.

  • Ability to operate and maintain all equipment in a safe and professional manner.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to use prudent judgment and problem solving skills to make reasonable and appropriate decisions and recommendations.

  • Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to efficiently manage time and workload, which includes prioritizing, organizing, and following-through on a variety of tasks, assignments, and projects to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a standard shop environment, which can include, but is not limited to, working with dust, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, and chemicals for an extended length of time as well as in various outdoor weather conditions as required.

  • Ability to take initiative and be a productive, contributing member of a team.

  • History of satisfactory attendance, which includes the ability to report to work in a punctual manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Basic experience operating commercial vehicles.

  • Experience working with industrial cleaning equipment and supplies.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics consistent with required qualifications as determined in the job analysis.

Pay Range:

$23.50 - $25.70 Hourly
