We are seeking a Chief API Engineer who can take ownership of API design, development, and testing against cloud infrastructure projects. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to build scalable backend solutions that power modern applications, ensuring clean code and high performance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Oversee the design, development, and testing of APIs and custom interfaces.
· Ensure that projects meet technical requirements and industry standards.
· Ensure that all projects comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
· Implement quality control measures to ensure that products or systems meet all required standards.
· Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance and quality.
· Perform configuration audits of software packages and supporting processes.
· Ensure integration SLAs are met for systems performance, reliability, availability, and security.
· Follow established SOPs for API publication.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product teams, and government workstream leads associated with cybersecurity and compliance, SQA, Application Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, and program governance.
· Provide design guidance via information architecture and system architecture diagrams.
· Contribute to API documentation packages.
· Communicate technical information to clients and vendors.
· Represent the development and software engineering teams in meetings and presentations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or related IT roles, with a strong focus on APIs.
· Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices.
· Strong understanding of API technologies, protocols (REST, GraphQL, SOAP, FHIR, etc.), and development methodologies and DevSecOps practices.
· Expertise in developing with a proven track record of delivering full stack cloud-based API solutions associated with distributed systems, micro services, and event-based architectures.
· Understanding of design principles for building modular, scalable, and resilient APIs.
· Hands on experience standing up complex CI/CD and API test automation pipelines using a diverse set of tools and frameworks.
· Hands-on experience with API publication and orchestration methods and practices, common API Gateway platforms and frameworks, and security controls.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
· Experience working with Federal agencies is a plus.
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
CLEARANCE:
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
