Job Responsibilities
Identify, evaluate, and recruit top-tier student-athletes who align with the competitive, academic, and cultural values of Penn Basketball, the Big 5, and the Ivy League.
Effectively articulate the benefits of a Penn education, its athletic tradition, and the unique experience of competing at the highest level of Ivy League and Big 5 competition.
Establish and maintain relationships with high school coaches, AAU programs, and recruiting services to build a sustainable talent pipeline.
Oversee the recruiting process from initial contact through commitment, ensuring compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League regulations.
Collaborate with admissions and financial aid offices to navigate the recruitment and enrollment process effectively.
Organize official and unofficial campus visits, providing prospective student-athletes with an immersive experience highlighting the University and the basketball program.
Design and implement effective player development plans, emphasizing skill progression, basketball IQ, and overall athletic performance.
Develop and execute game plans, scouting reports, and strategic adjustments to maximize team success.
Conduct team practices, film sessions, and individual player meetings to ensure continuous development and preparation.
Promote a team culture that prioritizes discipline, hard work, accountability, and academic excellence.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal university departments, including admissions, financial aid, compliance, academic services, student affairs, and alumni relations, to enhance the student-athlete experience.
Act as a liaison between Penn Basketball and university leadership, ensuring alignment on institutional priorities and strategic initiatives.
Work closely with athletic administration, strength and conditioning staff, medical personnel, and academic advisors to support student-athlete performance and well-being.
Collaborate with Penn's development office to strategize and execute fundraising initiatives that enhance program resources and facilities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with alumni to foster continued engagement, mentorship, and program support.
Participate in media interviews, press conferences, and public events to promote Penn Basketball and the University.
Recruit, hire, and manage assistant coaches, support staff, and team personnel to ensure a high-functioning program.
Establish clear expectations, roles, and responsibilities for each staff member.
Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
Work closely with the athletic administration to develop and manage the program's annual budget.
Oversee expenditures related to recruiting, travel, equipment, facilities, and operational ensure financial efficiency and compliance.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
