The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children's is inviting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek candidates with expertise in the pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD).


Candidates whose research may connect basic science with the broader clinical and translational communities at CCHMC and the University of Cincinnati Health System will receive special consideration.


As a top pediatric research medical center, CCHMC offers a unique environment enabling the integration of basic and clinical research aiming to address critical questions in pediatric digestive diseases; long-term investment in studies to advance our understanding of pathogenesis and treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases is a critical component of these efforts. The interdisciplinary faculty with a focus on IBD is a highly collaborative group of researchers who strive to advance our understanding of IBD mechanisms through innovative research and collaborations with others, including members of the NIDDK-supported Digestive Health Center, and the Center for Stem Cell & Organoid Medicine (CuSTOM).

Purpose of Position: The Assistant or Associate Professor role at Cincinnati Children's is a multifaceted one. It involves conducting independent and collaborative research, as well as participating in teaching and administrative duties. Responsibilities include initiating and coordinating research projects with potential for external funding and improving research services and operations. Collaboration with scientific directors and colleagues is essential to enhancing the effectiveness of scientists and clinician-scientists. The position also requires implementing strategic plans and policies to support Cincinnati Children's mission and values.



Responsibilities: Conduct independent and collaborative research aligned with ongoing projects. Ensure high-quality operations and fiscal integrity. Mentor graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, residents, and students in key training programs. Assume leadership roles in research and teaching, seeking recognition for your contributions. Complete evaluations for students and peers and stay current in your field through continuous education and seminars, applying this knowledge to your research.



Service and Administration: Engage in program development for services and administration, including creating research or educational programs, consulting on initiatives, and participating in departmental committees (e.g., IRB). Participate in local or regional scientific affairs through society memberships or boards. Foster teamwork and positive relationships while assisting in setting and implementing division goals. Manage annual budgets, conduct fiscal analyses, and monitor resource utilization.



Scholarly Activity: Engage in scholarly activities by coordinating research projects with potential for external funding. Present findings at scientific meetings and apply advanced methodologies in clinical studies. Collaborate on grant proposals to secure support from sources like NIH and NSF. Participate in joint research initiatives and publish findings. Maintain quality control programs, ensuring proper checks and accurate record-keeping. Define performance criteria for quality control and document corrective actions for unsatisfactory results.



Education/Experience




Qualifications:



  • Candidates must possess a PhD, MD/PhD, or an equivalent degree in biomedical sciences.

  • Those applying for the Assistant Professor position should have completed postdoctoral training, evidenced by a strong publication record and a research program with significant potential for securing extramural grant funding.

  • Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor should have an established track record of excellence and sustained externally funded independent and collaborative research.
