Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) welcomes a dedicated professional with expertise in performing administrative intelligence and project management tasks. The chosen candidate should have strong interpersonal skills; an ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines; initiate, review and manage projects; fuse, track and analyze data; research policy and best practices; identify and improve processes. This is a Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) assignment at Central Office. All CIU members may be temporarily assigned to another facility as needed. DUTIES:
Safeguards Intelligence data management throughout the agency.
Provides oversight for proper collection methodology, storage and use of the NDCS Intelligence data base system.
Supervises accesses for all secure databases used by the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU).
Coordinates, and provides responses for 'Requests for Information' (RFI) from multiple sources in and outside of NDCS.
Completes Intel specific background checks for current employee, pre-employment, volunteer and contractors.
Develops, facilitates, and presents training for all Intel data systems.
Creates intelligence products to identify, analyze, and track trends and threats for decision makers.
Serves as team member to the Central Intelligence Unit fusion center, provides input into strategies for data intelligence in follow-up facility investigations on staff and/or incarcerated individuals, as directed by intel supervisors and/or facility wardens.
Assists CIU members in preparation and presentation of weekly or bi-weekly intel status briefings for department and facility decision makers.
Assists in agency level review of daily significant incident reports and development of an intel plan and strategy in response to actual or potential threat reports to incarcerated individuals, staff and the safety security and good order of the facility.
Works well as a team member and understands the dynamics of a team.
Ensures confidentiality of all intelligence generated work efforts.
Is able to manage a stressful environment in a positive manner.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Post-high school coursework/training in Criminal Justice or related Behavioral field and three years of progressively responsible corrections experience. Experience or coursework/training in supervision and leadership. Must be able to legally possess firearms and ammunition.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, military, or law enforcement.
Two years in a supervisory role.
Experience in developing and understanding trends in culture that affect organizations.
Experience gathering and fusing intelligence in a prison setting and/or high security environment.
Experience preparing and interpreting reports.
Other:
Valid driver's license required.
Must have flexibility to work extended hours/days in response to institutional emergencies.
Has a desire to create a safe and secure correctional environment.
is a self-starter who can work with limited supervision.
Will be required to obtain and maintain certification as an intel analyst, intel database systems, investigations/interview techniques and intel product development.
Applicant accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program
