General Description

Residential and Dining Services (RDS) oversees on-campus housing and dining at Stevens.  Stevens’ housing includes traditional residence halls, Fraternity and Sorority housing, and two residential towers.  In the summer, RDS also offers housing to non-Stevens college interns, and camp/conference groups.  The Housing Operations Assistant (HOA) position is a dynamic and detail oriented live-in position that provides critical support to Residential and Dining Services.

The HOA will be primarily associated with one of three areas; on-campus housing, fraternity and sorority housing, or the residential towers, and will be cross trained in all three areas.  The position assists in the areas of facilities management, evaluation, preventative maintenance, project management, and office administration. In addition, the HOA will assist with departmental initiatives such as committee participation, support summer conferences, and technology management including administrative applications and housing software.

Areas of Responsibility Include:


  • Under supervision of the Manager of Housing Operations, provide leadership for fall, spring, and summer housing operations processes, including opening and closing projects, and room condition reports.

  • Collaborate with the Manager of Housing Operations regarding current and future project work needed in residence halls.

  • Weekly building tours for preventative maintenance recommendations.

  • Assist with Key management, including but not limited to:

    • Key audits

    • Ensuring campus safety through effective and secure key control



  • Administrative support, including but not limited to:

    • Respond effectively and efficiently to requests, communications, and concerns regarding building issues.

    • Manage/track work orders and monitor progress of work.

    • Answering phone and in person inquiries from students and parents while providing outstanding customer service.



  • Project based support of select departmental initiatives.

  • Serve as an on-call campus duty officer, responding to crisis and critical incidents as needed on a 24/7 crisis response rotation (if housing is provided).

    • Serve as a Supervisor level contact person for emergency situations that arise for residents.

    • Serve as conduct officer for minor code of conduct infractions

    • Conducting rounds at least once during their shift to check conditions of building.

    • Work with other staff members to ensure appropriate duty coverage for institution closing and holidays.



  • Maintain positive working relationships with outside contractors, vendors, and university staff.

  • Work in partnership with various university offices as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Preferences


  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Enrolled as a Graduate Student in an accredited institution.

  • Preference given to candidates with prior facilities or operations experience

  • Good organizational skills and technologically adept.

  • Positive attitude with excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to be on your feet and on the move for long periods of time, and ability to lift 20-25 pounds without assistance.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record in last 5 years.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with careful attention to detail

  • Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as autonomously.

  • Proactive and self-motivated; able to prioritize and complete tasks with moderate supervision, both in an office environment as well as in the field.

  • Proficient with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Be able to work with all students, staff, and faculty regardless of race, gender, and ethnicity tactfully and ensure students have a great residential experience.

  • Competitive hourly pay

  • Housing accommodations and Residence Life meal plan offered if serving as an on-call campus duty officer.

  • Work hours are typically 20 hours/week during business hours (Mon-Fri 9a-5p), but occasionally may require working evening and weekend hours as needed.

  • This is a part-time position for a fixed term of 12-24 months (6/1-5/31, dates can be somewhat flexible). 

  • Must be available for housing opening and closing; dates will be determined by academic calendar.
