The Service Supervisor, Shop is responsible for staffing, determining work assignments and priorities, maintaining quality, budgeting, direct supervision of employees, including coaching and performance management, promoting safety and quality, and ensuring adherence to company policies and practices. Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, train, direct and manage direct-labor employees who perform various repairs and rebuilds to engine components.
Ensure a safe environment for employees through adherence to safety policies, assessing and eliminating hazards, improving housekeeping standards, conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective action.
Plan and execute production schedules to meet customer requirements. Meet delivery and quality requirements including accurate reports and other paperwork required by the contract.
Review daily achievement of targets and report variances.
Recommend and implement strategies to improve quality, meet on-time delivery, and maintain cost within budget.
Responsible for ensuring accurate inventory control of all materials used in the performance of component repairs within the department and minimizing inventory held through efficient planning and achievement of lower lead times.
Develop and realize productivity improvements through lean initiatives, Standard Work Instructions, and process improvements.
Motivate, monitor, and counsel employees regarding work-related issues and performance. Assess workforce skills and initiate cross training programs as necessary.
Plan and recommend capital expenditures necessary to improve product flow.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Associate degree in a diesel engine technology program or equivalent experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred
Six years' industry experience or 6 years' military experience working on diesel engines
Prefer three years' experience in a supervisor role in a service environment
Prefer minimum four years' experience as FM Mechanic/Sr Mechanic
Familiarity with a variety of Fairbanks Morse Defense products
Excellent communication, problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills
Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project; experience with an ERP system (Oracle, SalesForce) is preferred
Very good understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings
Experience and a proven track record in a Job Shop environment is a plus
