About the Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 136 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations. We have more than 68,000 outpatient visits, 28,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,300 surgeries per year. Teaching, research, and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Additionally, the Section of Family Planning has established a unique research center, CI3, which focuses on reproductive policy and innovations in sexual and reproductive health. The department was ranked #16 on the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report.



Job Summary

The job manages multiple related teams of managers and professional staff responsible for the financial and management functions of a department in support of teaching, medical research and clinical care. Facilitates research initiatives of the faculty and staff. Develops departmental plans. Provides leadership and supervision to a large staff of exempt and non-exempt employees, including management teams.

Serves as a liaison between the department and partner organizations. Provides oversight of integration processes and project management.


The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Sr. Clinical Section Administrator to be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and managing daily operations of individual organization units, clinical research facilities, centers or academic departments. Manages a team of professional staff responsible for the financial and operational functions of a department in support of teaching, medical research and clinical care. Works with Section Chiefs and faculty of individual sections including but not limited to Gynecologic Oncology and integration services for partner institutions in order to facilitate daily operations and strategy development.



Responsibilities



  • Manage the implementation, direction, and policy development in areas of finance (revenue/expense management), professional fee billing, grants/contracts, human resources, facility operations, and fellowship training programs.


  • Develop or direct the development of accounting systems for the section's fiscal affairs, including systems and procedures to optimize income and control expenditures.


  • Provide the section chief and departmental administration with financial analysis and financial reports on a regular basis.


  • Conduct or direct the content of special studies related to financial management and accounting.


  • Direct the preparation of the section's operating budget. Develop estimates for staff, faculty salaries, and recovery, and all non-salary expenditures. Provide guidance and counsel to the section chief, faculty members, and departmental administration.


  • Participate with faculty, physician billing offices, and the hospital to identify chargeable professional fee tests and procedures, ensures the integrity of billing data, monitor accuracy of professional fee reports, and assesses the effectiveness of billing efforts.


  • Assist in the Management of Clinical Operations, including consistent and effective procedures for billing, credentialing, addressing physician compliance with regulatory requirements.


  • Partner with PIs and Section Chief in creating a strategy around clinical trials and section research management.


  • Work with physician leaders and UCMC administration to address clinical operations issues affecting hospital operations.


  • Serves as a liaison between the Department and outside clients ensuring excellent communication and collaboration between parties.


  • Manages a team(s) including those within hospital functions.


  • Provides leadership to managers and professional staff within a department to support teaching, medical research and clinical care. Facilitates research initiatives of the faculty and staff.


  • Establishes department priorities, allocates resources and executes strategic plans.


  • Manages non-medical activities of the department(s). Advises policy development and implementation in various departmental areas.


  • May manage multiple related teams including those within hospital functions.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.



Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
