ACADEMIC ADVISOR - TRIO Talent Search

Under general supervision provides comprehensive advising sessions. Assist students in accessing and enrolling in a post-secondary institution. Coordinate and deliver supplemental academic services to further prepare TRIO eligible students for post-secondary enrollment and academic success.


This is a Grant Funded position.

• Provide academic, personal, career and financial advisement to participants through individual and or group sessions and workshops.


• Will build support and strengthen target schools college going culture, that promotes college, careers, degree attainment and certificate programs by providing both the student and parent with college and career information.


• Will support, promote, and assist with target schools, campus, college and career events.


• Collaborates with individuals and colleagues in similar roles to share best practices and resources that maximize student outcomes.


• Counselor will recruit, support and guide the outcome of 325 caseloads of students and career support, college visits, assistance to research scholarships, and connection to other first generation services, maintain counseling records, and assessment of need for participants program documentation.


• Attend professional development trainings to create awareness of current trends in the areas of college admission requirements and career explorations .


• Develop and conduct in service workshops and seminars for ongoing campus education and awareness.


• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree

Valid Texas Driver's License preferred.

Knowledge of:

• Policies, procedures, practices and equipment.


• Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.


• Experience working with disadvantaged youths.

• Problem-solving and decision-making.


• Multitasking and time management.


• Both verbal and written communication.

• Prepare detailed reports.


• Work independently.

Two (2) years to three (3) years of related experience.

• Prolonged standing and/or walking.


• Handling light weight objects.


• Using or carrying equipment.


• Awareness of school safety protocols.
