Job Description Summary The University of South Alabama’s Grounds department is seeking to hire a Groundskeeper III. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions
  • Performs routine and specialized groundskeeping functions to include: mowing and edging lawns, removing grass clippings, leaves, pine needles, trash, and debris from lawns and landscape areas, pruning shrubbery and trees, planting and mulching shrubs, trees, and flowers, and installing stakes and guys on trees as required.
  • Applies irrigation water to lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment to include pruners, line trimmers, blower, rake, shovel, push mower, edger, sod cutter, riding mowers, tractor mounted flail/bush hog, hydraulic tree spade, tractor mounted spreader/sprayers and high speed chipper grinder.
  • Applies fertilizer, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, peat, and other materials weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Sweeps streets, driveways and parking lots.
  • Operating a variety of university owned pick-up trucks, spray equipment, boom sprayer, tank sprayer and backpack.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment as required.
  • Installs and repairs irrigation systems.
  • Safely operates farm and garden tractors with associated attached equipment.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
