As an Aeromechanics engineer for Rolls-Royce, you'll support the evaluation of turbomachinery subsystems, including compressor and turbine gas paths, by assessing fluid-structure interaction and the subsequent vibration of airfoils and other components. This involves aeromechanical assessments for preliminary design, engine certification, optimization, cost reductions, and failure investigations. You will also support testing to validate predictions and to clear the architecture for certification. You will bring forward innovative analytical solutions for customer issues on new and fielded products to resolve issues related to high cycle fatigue, flutter, damping and mistuning.
Key Accountabilities
Running aeromechanics analysis with in-house CFD to evaluate forced response, flutter, rotating stall and other aeroelastic phenomena. Evaluating mistuning and nonlinear dynamics.
Using reduced order models to evaluate the effects of inlet distortion, mistuning, intake acoustics, and other parameters on various aeromechanics related problems.
Test planning and post-processing to support aeromechanics testing objectives and to validate analytical methods. Interpreting test data to identify and explain component vibration.
Identifying aeromechanics requirements for new products and working with subject matter experts to establish certification strategies.
Collaborating with aerodynamic and mechanical designers, stress analysts, and test engineers to progress new engine designs and support in service vibration investigations.
Communicating technical and business results via reports and presentations to senior engineers both within and external to Rolls-Royce.
Taking an active role in continual improvement of our aeromechanics methods and processes.
