Position Overview



This position is responsible for the day-to-day HR transactions and administrative support of the HR department. This role will have oversite of various HR administrative programs and will handle employee records, onboarding, maintaining compliance with labor laws, and providing general HR support. This role requires a focus towards customer focus, continuous improvement, strong attention to detail, and problem solving.



Responsibilities




  • Responsible for processing and accurately maintaining day-to-day human resources transactions including employee files, new hire paperwork, training records, terminations and other personnel actions.
  • Administer the regions random drug program and MUST program; update and maintain records accordingly.
  • Coordinate employee pre-boarding and onboarding process including completion of pre-employment background checks, employee file creation, and offers.
  • Administer the MDOT On The Job Training program, enrollment and monthly report.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidential DOT driver files and reporting for the region.
  • Manage and process all tuition reimbursement and employee referral bonus request.
  • Maintain the union apprentice records and process applications.
  • Process all HR related invoices for payment.
  • Respond to unemployment claims and correspondence.
  • Coordinates engagement events including anniversary, birthday, bereavement, and the employee regional recognition banquet.
  • Respond to HRIS reporting needs.
  • Work as member of the human resources team to maximize the functional utilization, and continuous improvement efforts and support of regional human resources initiatives.
  • Serve as first point of contact for general human resources related questions HR calls, mail and correspondences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in HR, payroll or benefits administration; high school diploma required.
  • 2 years of experience working with HR practices, procedures, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to HR, payroll and benefits such as FLSA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, among others.
  • Advance knowledge MS Office suite and experience using various HR systems and databases.
  • Customer Focus - Customer focus with good communication skills, verbally and in writing across all levels of the organization.
  • Action Oriented - Takes initiative and new challenges without prompting; identifies and seizes new opportunities; displays can-do attitude in all situations.
  • Decision Quality - Ability to analyze issues independently, understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions; considers relevant factors and uses appropriate decision-making criteria; involves others appropriately.
  • Optimizes Work Processes - identifies and creates processes necessary to get work done; actively seeks ways to drive continuous improvement.
  • Instills Trust - Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion or knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Work Environment




  • Standard office environment with limited travel within region to job sites or between offices with ability to work away from corporate office as needed.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including, but not limited to computers, phones and communications systems, copiers, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Models safety and adherence to the company handbook and related directives.
