Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The GBH Archives catalogs, tracks, organizes, and preserves the media used to create GBH productions. The GBH Archives holds physical and digital media and paper records, including materials that need to be retained for production, legal, financial, historical, or administrative purposes. 

GBH Archives also collaborates with the Library of Congress to coordinate the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, a national effort to preserve and make accessible historically significant public radio and television programming that has aired over the past 70+ years.

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

The GBH Archives is offering a full-time paid internship for a student in an accredited undergrad or master’s program. The intern will work with members of the GBH Archives team, focused on preservation of archival CDs for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting as well as creation of training and evaluation data for machine learning tools to support archival description and cataloging.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

The intern will accomplish the following:


  • Test and document workflows for preserving CDs in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting  

  • Categorize still images from videos of public media programs

  • Correct automatically generated transcripts and captions from public media programs

  • Perform item-level cataloging of videos in the American Archive of Public Broadcasting

  • Become acquainted with the PBCore metadata schema

  • Learn about basic machine learning concepts and workflows

  • Meet and receive mentorship from GBH Archives staff

  • Write a capstone blog post with reflections on the roles of humans and computers in archival description

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


  • Experience or interest working with optical media

  • Working knowledge of the basic archival principles for arrangement, description, preservation, and access

  • Experience with asset management systems, database systems, or cataloging

  • Interest in data processing or software development

  • Strong attention to detail

JOB STATUS

Paid Internship $17/hour (Full time, 40 hours a week)

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative areas

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM


  • Internship dates: June 9th to August 15th

  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi

  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States
