Job Summary:
The Data Center IT Technician will provide on-site IT support for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure and IT hardware in a data center environment. This role involves rack and stack of equipment, cabling, server support, auditing, and labeling while ensuring proper documentation and compliance with security protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Hardware Installation & Maintenance: Perform rack and stack of servers, switches, routers, and other IT equipment.
Cabling & Network Support: Install, terminate, and route copper and fiber structured cabling, ensuring compliance with network standards.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and rectify hardware failures, connectivity issues, and network faults within the data center.
Auditing & Documentation: Maintain inventory records, update system logs, and ensure all assets are properly labeled.
Remote Hands Support: Execute remote tasks, including power cycling, swapping failed components, performing hardware upgrades, and running diagnostic commands.
Third-Party Coordination: Escort and monitor vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with client security and SLA standards.
Service Management: Assist with ticketing systems (Service Request, Incident, Change Management) to log and resolve issues.
General Housekeeping: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the data center white space to ensure a secure and efficient working environment.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years in the IT industry or a Data Center environment.
Experience with hardware troubleshooting, networking, and cabling.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED (Required).
Associate's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field (Preferred).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with Brady Workstation (for labeling and asset management).
Familiarity with multiple network platforms and IT equipment.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).
CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional).
Soft Skills:
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to follow up and track issues until resolution.
Team player with a strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Comfortable working in a data center environment with restricted access protocols.
