Job Summary:The Travel ADS Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and replenishing Automated Dispensing Systems (ADS) at various long-term care (LTC) facilities. This role requires frequent travel, excellent technical skills, and strong customer service abilities to ensure ADS units function efficiently to support medication dispensing and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Setup:
Coordinate with facilities and pharmacy staff to schedule ADS installations.Set up ADS units, ensuring proper calibration, connectivity, and functionality.Train facility staff on ADS usage, including medication retrieval, returns, and reporting tools.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Conduct routine preventive maintenance on ADS units to ensure optimal performance.Respond promptly to service requests and provide on-site troubleshooting.Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, or network connectivity.Document all service calls, repairs, and preventive maintenance in the appropriate system.
Inventory Management and Replenishment:
Coordinate with the pharmacy team to ensure ADS units are properly stocked with medications.Conduct routine audits to track inventory levels, expiration dates, and medication accuracy.Perform restocking, medication removal, and proper disposal of expired medications.Ensure all controlled substances are stored and tracked in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Compliance and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for each ADS unit, including inventory logs, maintenance records, and service call documentation.Ensure ADS operations comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, and company policies.Assist facilities in preparing for inspections and audits related to medication storage and dispensing.
Training and Support:
Provide initial and ongoing training to facility staff on ADS functionality and troubleshooting.Serve as the primary point of contact for ADS-related inquiries from facilities.Develop and maintain user guides, quick-reference sheets, and other educational materials for ADS users.
Travel and Scheduling:
Regularly travel to assigned LTC facilities to provide installation, maintenance, and support.Flexibility to adjust travel schedules as needed to address urgent maintenance requests or installations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; pharmacy technician certification REQUIRED (CPhT).Experience in pharmacy operations, particularly in long-term care or hospital settings, preferred.Technical proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting ADS units (e.g., Omnicell, Pyxis, etc.).Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service and teamwork.Ability to travel frequently, often with minimal notice, and possess a valid drivers license.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and record-keeping.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and walking during ADS installations and maintenance.
Work Environment:
Frequent travel to various LTC facilities.May include occasional evening or weekend work to support urgent maintenance needs or installations.
