Hours: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm (30-Minute Paid Lunch)

• FBI Fingerprints
• PA Criminal Background Check
• PA Child Abuse Clearance
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's preferred)
• PDE Certification in Special Education

  Purpose of Position:
  

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing an individualized education program in the least restrictive environment. The role involves supporting students in academic achievement, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities, ensuring their growth in a safe and effective classroom. The teacher will collaborate with staff, administrators, and parents to address individual student needs and progress, and will ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Essential Functions:

• Adapt classroom materials to meet individual students' needs and ensure alignment with their IEPs.
• Administer assessments and evaluations to track student progress, including behavioral, academic, motor, and communication skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community resources to enhance student outcomes.
• Design and implement behavior management programs, including Positive Behavior Support and Applied Behavior Analysis.
• Deliver a structured academic program to help students succeed in various aspects of learning.
• Prepare and maintain necessary documentation such as grades, attendance, progress reports, and IEPs.
• Collaborate with other educators to support curriculum implementation and modifications for individual students.
• Counsel students on health, performance, and personal issues to foster their well-being.
• Provide first aid and assistance to medically fragile students when required.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
• Supervise assistant teachers, volunteers, and other support staff to create an effective learning environment.
• Manage student behavior to maintain a positive and safe classroom setting.
• Participate in meetings to discuss student progress and address concerns.
• Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations for special education services.
• Respond to emergency situations and report incidents in line with school policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the program.

Skills:

• Ability to perform complex tasks and adapt to changing job conditions.
• Proficient with assessment tools, office equipment, and relevant software applications.
• Capable of preparing and maintaining accurate records and documents.

Knowledge:

• Understanding of educational policies, developmental stages, and behavioral management strategies.
• Familiarity with lesson planning requirements and applicable state standards.
• Knowledge of relevant laws, codes, and regulations.

Abilities:

• Strong organizational skills for scheduling activities and gathering data.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and adapt to different processes.
• Problem-solving skills to analyze and resolve issues effectively.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate tact, patience, and flexibility in working hours.
