Job Summary:The Manufacturing Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial operations within the manufacturing environment. This role involves cost accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, inventory valuation, purchasing and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will work closely with the production team to manage and optimize costs while maintaining accurate financial records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis:
  • · Analyze and track manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead.
  • · Develop and maintain job costing and bill of materials/routings for manufacturing.
  • · Prepare cost estimates for new and existing products to support pricing decisions.
  • · Conduct margin analysis and provide recommendations for cost reduction.
  • Inventory & Fixed Assets Management:
  • · Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation processes.
  • · Monitor inventory movements, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.
  • · Assist in inventory cycle counts and physical stock audits as needed.
  • · Manage fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditures for the manufacturing division.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance:
  • · Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements related to manufacturing operations.
  • · Ensure compliance with GAAP, DFARS, FAR, ISO 9001 and company accounting policies.
  • · Assist with external audits by providing necessary documentation.
  • · Maintain accurate financial records for manufacturing costs and expenditures.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
  • · Support budgeting and forecasting processes for manufacturing operations.
  • · Monitor actual vs. budget performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • · Provide financial insights to management for strategic decision-making.
  • Process Improvement & Support:
  • · Collaborate with production and business development teams to improve cost efficiency.
  • · Implement financial controls and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • · Assist in ERP system and AI implementations or upgrades related to manufacturing finance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, CMA preferred).
  • Experience: 3+ years in accounting, with experience in manufacturing or cost accounting preferred. Experience in government contracting a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (CostPoint, SAP, Oracle, or similar), advanced Excel, and financial reporting tools.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with cost accounting principles, GAAP, DFARS, FAR and tax compliance related to manufacturing.
