The Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is seeking a Marketing & Communications Specialist I to join their team!
The purpose of this position is to provide information and communications to the public related to the agency. Creating a direct link between agency and the public (including deaf and hard of hearing community members, clients, stakeholders, local and state officials, media relations) is essential to ensure services, education, information and referrals are provided. The development, collaboration and management of agency website, publications, communications, programs, updates, and information is vital to be successful in serving Nebraskans. It is effective implementation and coordination of agency information that allows for our mission and vision to be achieved.

Job Duties:Develop and implement agency's internal and external communications. Create agency public relation strategies, programs and promotional events. Evaluate marketing, communications, advertising for agency benefit to inform and educate the public. Disseminate public information via social media channels, electronic newsletters, website design and editing, video production and editing software, in-person at community stakeholder meetings and events. Create and plan agency outreach events. Plan promotional timeline, create marketing materials with design software and editing. Directly correspond and instruct assignments to nine teammates to coordinate and facilitate project timelines for public relation-related work. Advertise these promotional and educational events to intended audience/community through external communications. Write, design and edit agency educational and informational publications such as brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, media releases, video blogs (VLOGs). Create publications using agency software, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, administrative software. Publish to all external and internal channels. Update publications on as-needed basis. Establish relationships with community leaders, representatives and stakeholders. Work with state and local government officials the agency works with to achieve agency mission. Maintain connection and relationships by meetings and providing agency updates as pertains to local government and community. Analyze data and information statewide and nationally as it pertains to agency and the possible impact on general public/community the agency serves. Advise Executive Director on editorial data and information. Make decision whether to disseminate public information and/or data to appropriate stakeholders and community. Create and maintain direct contact with media members including print, television, digital outlets. Contact media outlets and discuss events and public information relevant to the agency. Discuss and plan dissemination of agency information to inform public. Analyze, research and determine agency marketing needs and items. Collect data on equipment needed throughout agency to carry out work and mission. Submit requests based off of budgetary and fiscal factors to Executive Director on as-needed basis for agency projects and promotion events. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:Vocational/Technical diploma or associate's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, graphic arts, digital media, videography, or related field and at least one year of experience in conducting public relations, information, or graphic art activities. Required experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:Understanding of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Culture and American Sign Language is a plus or have the willingness to learn.
Other:Regular and reliable attendance is required. This position requires travel 10%-20% of the time. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation.
