Job Summary
The Infection Preventionist for Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Infection Prevention functions of MGH IC, one of the site teams of MGB Infection Control. The Infection Preventionist, reporting to the MGH/MEE Sr. Manager of Director of Infection Control, must have knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control principles and practice, the ability to make evidence-based decisions, excellent problem-solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.


MGB is in an active change management environment and the Infection Preventionist will need to demonstrate flexibility and open mindedness as the contours of this position will actively evolve over time.



Qualifications


Principle Duties and Responsibilities


Under the supervision and in collaboration with the MG H /MEE Sr. Manager of Infection Control , the Infection Preventionist


Implement at the site-level, system infection prevention and control goals, plans , policies, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, regulatory/legal requirements and objectives of the organization .


Implement site NHSN and non-NHSN surveillance , remediation, and reporting of infections, including outbreak detection and response .


Conduct regular Environment of Care rounds and report findings to appropriate local and system leadership.


Support continuous improvement of infection prevention and control practices .


Function as a site liaison to regulatory agencies and public health authorities.


Evaluate the site-specific infection control program by identifying strategies that address the risk of infection transmission.


Oversee and conduct site-specific educational efforts related to infection prevention and control .


Implement, in collaboration with MGB Occupational Health Services, policies and procedures to assess, mitigate, and respond to occupational infection risk.


Collaborate with other site-specific stakeholders (e.g., Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance, Facilities, Real Estate, etc ) as appropriate .


Act as NHSN site administrator when assigned by MGH/MEE Sr. Manager of Infection Control.


Participate in IPCC Working Groups and other activities as assigned.


Other duties as assigned .


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree required . Master's degree in Infection Control, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or another relevant field is acceptable.


Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire, must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire.


Current Massachusetts' licensure as a registered nurse preferred but not required .


Minimum 3 years of related work experience required .


Knowledge and experience in


regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control


implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections


application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others


Special Requirements


Must be available to work in the case of a facility- declared emergency.


Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews.


Must be available to work on-site.
