The Sr. Manager, Rare Disease Field Training Lead is responsible for the professional skill development and execution efforts across the full Rare Disease sales team.  This includes the pull-though of trainings that range from new hire through advanced & on-going developmental needs of the nation across the portfolio.  In this highly visible, cross-functional role, this individual will partner closely with field leadership, commercial training, marketing, operations, HR, patient services, legal, compliance, and reimbursement to ensure consistent, sustained, and hands-on executional excellence by the HCP-facing field team. 

They will assume indirect reporting of the Field Force Trainers.  In addition, the role will be accountable for new hires throughout the on-boarding process to ensure compliant and effective implementation of knowledge, skills, and processes.  In this role, the incumbent will work closely with the field and field leadership by frequent field exposure to identify & share best practices, determine development needs, serve as a coaching partner for field leadership and be a positive force with the on-going goal of executional excellence. 

As an expert in the HCP journey, the role will be the liaison between the field, Rare Disease leadership and home office cross-functional partners as well as any external vendors to support the on-going development and operational needs across the rare disease portfolio for the sales team.  S/he will be responsible for effective training, coaching, and operational excellence in line with all approved marketing materials and approved messages.  To maximize efforts, this individual will report to the Head of Sales and participate as a member of the sales leadership team.

Principal Accountabilities:



  • Field Coaching & Support

    • Provide field coaching and support, ensuring effective use of tools, tactics, messages,  and trainings provided by the business.

    • Participate in the development & support of marketing strategies, tactics, and messages by surveying/coaching the execution efforts in the field on a consistent basis.

    • Assist in the development and execution of all on-boarding training of new hires.

    • Indirectly lead the Field Force Trainers for new hire and on-going training execution in partnership with the internal training team

    • Partner with field leadership to determine skill gaps, training needs and coaching opportunities through field observation.

    • Partner with Sr. Leadership on execution of field coaching and coaching reports

    • Provide feedback and leadership to home office from regular field observation, in preparation for regional/national meetings and to highlight best practices.

    • Play a pivotal role in the creation and execution of development workshops at regional & national meetings to support the objectives of marketing & leadership.

    • Build a network of internal and external rare disease resources to support field development through advocacy, rare disease events and national conferences.




  • Build for the future

    • Help identify, coach, and develop transferrable skills specific to the sales to prepare for Biogen roles/contributions beyond current roles

    • Work collaboratively with Biogen counterparts across the organization to determine best practices and leverage an enterprise ONEBIOGEN approach to training, development, and field execution.

    • Identify and determine on-going development needs with HCP engagement, sales engagement model, and national skill-based programs.  Design & execute additional national trainings.  Lead the partnership with external vendors to meet any training needs.

    • Support the evolution and execution of a sustainable sales model for engagement with HCPs in the identification, activation and maintenance phases of the rare disease journey.  Provide individual coaching, assess metrics in partnership with internal business partners & leadership, and work closely with marketing to support execution of key strategic initiatives.

    • Maintain up to date knowledge on all Biogen, disease, HCP engagement, and product related resources/models to support current and future patient care needs.

    • Participate in key cross-functional task forces with business partners such as marketing insights, competitive intelligence, patient services, and marketing.



 

  • Additional responsibilities & duties may be assigned at any time as determined by the business.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree; advanced education/certification desirable with focus on adult learning, people leadership, project management and/or other applicable areas.

  • 7-10 years of industry experience in a commercial role

  • Minimum of 5 years in sales, reimbursement, or equivalent field role.  Rare disease and patient finding roles preferred.

  • Strong desire to lead a field-based team as part of career progression

  • Breadth of various commercial experiences strongly desired.  Experience leading cross-functionally and influencing without authority preferred.

  • Proven strength in the areas of emotional intelligence, communication, project management and the demonstration as a model of our cultural pillars.

  • Prior experience successfully executing initiatives and projects while navigating the legal, regulatory and compliance environment preferred.

  • The role is a field-based position with frequent travel to the home office and field rides.  The ideal candidate must be able to travel 50% of the time including overnight and national coverage.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is $144,000 - $193,000. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen's LTI grants and other incentive programs.
