Department: Operations – Services

Reports To: RavenTek Program Manager

Location: Springfield, VA

Schedule: Monday – Friday

Hours: Full-time, 40-hours/week

FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Clearance: TSC/SCI CI


Position Summary

The System Compliance Engineer (Accessibility Technical Support) ensures compliance with federal IT accessibility standards. With skills in system engineering, process and knowledge of Section 508, W3C, and/or Web Content Accessibility Guideline (WCAG) standards and accessibility technologies, the System Compliance Engineer will work to solve critical technological engineering problems for the government and enhance the user experience in the IT systems within the government Section 508 compliance lifecycle. This position is an integral part of RavenTek's success with the customer.


Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise on all purchase recommendations with respect to IT Accessibility and Section 508 Compliance.
  • Conduct internal and external website and Application testing.
  • Create plans for the implementation of accessibility to all Information and Communications Technology.
  • Use testing software and/or test scripts and guidelines.
  • Provide process improvement recommendations for the procurement, development, maintenance, and use of Information and Communications Technology such that they meet Section 508 compliance guidelines.
  • Participate in the technical implementation of IT Accessibility where required.
  • Measure the progress of enterprise applications with respect to IT Accessibility.
  • Develop accessible code, create or improve compliance checkers, and recommend the procurement of accessible Information and Communications Technology as necessary.
  • Work with teams to identify how accessibility works into the current framework.
  • Make recommendations for acquiring or implementing collaboration and accessibility solutions.
  • Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
  • Submit reports as required.
  • Monitor RavenTek email on a regular basis and respond accordingly.
  • Complete required compliance training as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Critical Skills

  • Solid knowledge of IT Governance.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical accessibility issues and solutions to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to provide testing electronic documents (PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for Section 508 compliance.
  • Excellent written communication skills for heavy documentation; verbal communication skills for client facing training and support.
  • Capable of implementing technical solutions for IT Accessibility.
  • In-depth understanding of Section 508, WCAG, and other federal accessibility mandates for IT software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of HTML semantics/tagging, hyperlink integrity, and remediation of Section 508 accessibility issues.
  • Strong technical skills using common business tools, such as SharePoint, PPT, and Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance testing and evaluation of tools and best practices.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Software Development, Human-Computer Interaction or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with IT Accessibility, Section 508 compliance, software development, software implementation or a related field.
  • Experience working within the federal government.
  • Experience testing electronic documents (PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for Section 508 compliance.
  • IT Governance experience.
  • Experience implementing technical solutions for IT Accessibility.
  • Experience applying automation methods and techniques preferred.
  • Experience with compliance testing and evaluation of tools and best practices.
  • Government acquisition experience desirable.
  • Experience working with technology for people with disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of Accessibility hardware and software.
  • Experience with process management and training.

  • None

Special Requirements

  • TSC/SCI clearance with a CI polygraph.

Work Environment

Employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.


Physical Demands

To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, the employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; see to read printed materials and computer screens; mobility to work in a typical office setting. Ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and may be required to provide recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee must be able to lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically up to 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
