Job Responsibilities:




JOB SUMMARY:



Provides support to the Validation and Chem Lab Supervisor in areas such as manufacturing process analysis, environmental testing, and a wide variety of testing. Performs a wide variety of assignments, all of which may not be completely standardized or prescribed. Must be well organized and willing to learn. Concisely records and reports results and procedures. Must exercise good judgment in problem-solving, support quality and engineering. May prepare quotes for future programs and performs benchmarking of current prototype products. May justify new equipment purchases. Performs other duties as needed.



ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



The duties listed below require program/project management skills and are complex in nature, involving a high degree of judgment and initiative to perform duties and anticipate needs of Division. Work requires independent problem solving and decision making. Decisions focus on prioritization, process, and issues as well as data elements and can have a major impact on the Division's organization and long-term success.




  • Conducts environmental, physical, and analytical tests to verify the quality of incoming, in-process, competitive, and final products to ensure compliance with customer and Engineered Glass specifications, which often requires heavy lifting of 40+ pounds.

  • Helps with special studies, process evaluations, process/procedure auditing, and/or troubleshooting under the guidance of the Validation Lab Manager.

  • Maintains a filing system for data, reports, procedures, and specifications in a neat and organized manner.

  • Troubleshoots and performs routine equipment maintenance to ensure all equipment is capable of producing accurate results. Replaces consumable parts, performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and servicing as needed. Reviews calibration requirements and arranges for verification as required.

  • Performs repetitive testing on large sample sizes (i.e. shear tests).

  • Conducts analytical tests using computerized analytical equipment on incoming chemical raw materials.

  • Communicates with engineers, supervisors, and purchasing, both verbally and with written reports on results.

  • Understands and applies the use of Statistical Process Control methods and reports.

  • Programs computerized controls on environmental chambers.

  • Maintains lab and test equipment in an organized manner. Performs routine maintenance such as changing thermocouples and performs verification on equipment.

  • Works collaboratively with other validation and chem lab team members.

  • Analyzes test results to ensure they meet specifications and takes corrective actions when there is a problem.

  • Records, analyzes, and reports data for all evaluations, and maintains acceptable records to comply with customer requirements.

  • Operate hydraulic lift (Crane) for required testing.

  • Performs other duties as directed. Filling syringes, cutting primer wheels and baking razer blades.




REQUIREMENTS:





  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience and/or training in inspection and/or Quality Control Lab testing is preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic level chemistry and physics is strongly preferred with the ability to use, understand, and apply chemistry fundamentals to analytical work.

  • Demonstrated statistical background and understanding in SPC, sampling, and data collection preferred.

  • Ability to use, understand, and interpret test equipment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain neat and accurate records. Must be able to organize raw data into written reports.

  • A high degree of judgment and comprehension required.

  • Strong math skills required.

  • Ability to work under pressure or deadlines and/or other short-term assignments. Must be able to adjust to frequent changes in priorities.

  • Must be a self-motivated individual, capable of working without direct supervision. Must be able to prioritize routine testing.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a participative environment.

  • Testing requires the ability to lift backlights weighing approximately 20 lbs. each several times daily, ability to move cart loads of windows weighing approximately 400 lbs. twice daily, ability to pull approximately 50 lbs. force and ability to frequently lift and move chemicals in five-gallon containers. Visual inspection of samples to determine mode of failure is required.

  • Testing requires a high degree of mobility involving frequent moving between machines and reading instruments in difficult locations. Must be able to perform some test on factory floor, and in multiple buildings.

  • Operates all work adhering to regulatory safety standards.

  • English proficiency required, bilingual Spanish preferred.
