Junior Software Developer Intern

Position Summary:
 

The junior software development intern will contribute to the development and maintenance of software that supports APS business functions. This role is designed for an individual with foundational programming skills who is enrolled in an educational program that requires, or would otherwise benefit from,  hands-on, practical experience in software development in a business environment. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced developers to learn best practices, contribute to projects, and develop technical and problem-solving skills.

 

This is a temporary, part-time position with an expected duration of no more than ninety days or less. This internship does not provide visa sponsorship.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain software using tools, practices, and development methodologies specified by the group technical lead.

  • Set up and maintain a personal development environment. Integrate with the team development environment for test and release phases.

  • Write automated tests to document code usage, ensure proper functioning of components, and limit regressions.

  • Utilize project management tools used by the group to track tasks and progress on projects as directed. Integrate these tools into a personal development workflow.

  • Write clear and concise documentation for other developers and for users as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the development team. Participate in the group’s technical meetings and code reviews.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education: 
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. preferred. Applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.


Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Minimum of one year relevant work experience or internships and or one year of undergraduate coursework in software development may be accepted.
  • Basic knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, Ruby, or similar).
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundamental programming concepts such as data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of web development concepts and frameworks is desirable.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and take constructive feedback.


Travel: The position requires up to 5% of travel for in-person meetings with staff as well as periodic, as well as  additional travel as assigned. This is a temporary, part-time position with an expected duration of no more than ninety days or less.


Salary:


The salary range for this position takes into account various factors influencing compensation decisions, such as skill sets, experience, training, and other business and organizational requirements. The salary listed within the specified ranges considers relevant experience. Our compensation philosophy at APS aims to maintain salaries at the midpoint of the market. As a result, we typically hire within the target starting range. Exceptional, rare cases may merit reviews above target starting range for specialized or niche skills aligned with strategic operational goals.


Target salary: $18.00/hour (USD)
