Salary Range: $122,000-$170,000


At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare, well-being benefits, paid family leave as well as generous paid time off. Total Rewards also include banking perks, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K plan with company match and may include the opportunity to participate in our Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation plan. Position Summary


The Privacy Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing privacy compliance within Midland States Bank. This role ensures the protection of sensitive customer information and compliance with all applicable privacy laws and regulations. The Privacy Officer serves as the subject matter expert in privacy-related issues, develops policies and training programs, and collaborates with internal stakeholders to promote a culture of privacy awareness and data security. This position is an individual contributor role.

 

Primary Accountabilities


  • Regulatory Compliance – Ensure the bank adheres to privacy laws and regulations, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), to mitigate legal risk.
  • Risk Management – Identify and mitigate risks associated with data breaches and unauthorized access to personal information.
  • Customer Trust – Uphold Midland’s commitment to protecting customer data to strengthen trust, reputation, and customer loyalty.
  • Policy Development and Implementation – Establish and maintain privacy policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Training & Awareness – Develop and lead privacy training initiatives for employees and leadership, ensuring compliance best practices are understood and followed.
  • Incident Response – Lead responses to data breaches, including coordinating notifications to customers and regulatory bodies, and implementing preventive measures.
  • Executive & Board Reporting – Provide reports to the Risk Policy & Compliance Committee, senior management, and the Board of Directors on privacy operations, progress, and compliance effectiveness.
  • Collaboration with Risk & Compliance Teams – Work with Risk Management, IT, and business units to align privacy initiatives with broader compliance and security strategies.
  • Enforcement and Reporting – Ensure proper handling and reporting of violations to executive management and enforcement agencies as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Other

 

  • The role requires occasional travel for training and team meetings, and willingness to travel periodically, to locations within market as needed.
  • May require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers. 
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in privacy compliance within a financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of privacy regulations such as GLBA and state-specific privacy laws.
  • Experience in risk management and compliance programs.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
