The Sonographer independently performs a wide range of routine and complex ultrasound exams and vascular studies, recognizing the need to make modifications during the examination. Works directly with patients and Physicians and operates equipment that uses high- frequency soundwaves to take images and scans of the body's internal organs. Knows and understands the principles of ultrasound and the highly specialized equipment well enough to essentially approve the acceptability or reject ability of each scan.

This is a contract position to work at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago, IL
Contract length will be 1-year contracts with renewal up to 5 years.
Schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8 - 4:30 PM.
No weekends, on call, or holidays required. Overtime will be rare if ever.

Responsibilities
Interpret requests or instructions from radiologist or medical officers.
Independently interpret and carry out the requests made by physicians.
Prepares room, equipment and materials needed for patient procedures.
Explains procedures to patient in a manner that will gain cooperation, understanding, and apprehension.
Performs Intra-Operative Ultrasound examinations to assist the Interventional Radiologists in tumor ablation procedures in a sterile surgical environment.
Obtain pertinent clinical data from the patient, electronic health record, requisition, and interviewing the patient and/or family.
Maintain Ultrasound equipment as directed by the manufacturer.
Maintain electronic records of patient exams assuring that the images acquired are transferred into the patient record and perform clerical duties as related to patient care as it pertains to release of information and image disc creation.
Coordinates patient care activities with other Services as necessary to facilitate treatment of patients in a timely manner.
Demonstrates the ability to perform critical clinical tasks and routine quality assurance tasks without assistance.
Requirements:
Must have a minimum of two years' current experience in this field and recent Ultrasound Technologist performing general and vascular ultrasound examinations.
Maintains certificate as a Sonographer from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Active BLS certification through American Heart Association. Depending on VA contract ACLS may be required too.
Ability to pass and maintain any credentialing requirements as decided by the VA.
Must be a US Citizen.
