The location in Fort Mill, (South Carolina, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Customs Specialist. This job is full-time permanent.

Overview:
The purpose of this position is to facilitate and support daily customs operations in US and Canada for the entire organization. This entails replying to requests for information from U.S. and Canadian Customs Brokers, and providing guidance to Domtar personnel regarding Canadian and US Customs requirements. This position will help ensure compliance with Customs regulations and Domtar procedures through various monitoring activities, risk assessments, remediation and continuous improvement efforts.
Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Manage the Customs general INBOX & respond to various requests from customs brokers' related to Domtar import/export documents, as well as internal requests including solving problems to ensure prompt customs release.
Report recurrent issues to the Sr. Manager & participate to implement corrective measures.
Maintain SOP with brokers up to date.
Determine & maintain the Customs tariff classification for all Domtar's manufactured products and ensure tariff database/tables are accurate.
Support Procurement group on equipment importation: ensure supplier's accurate documentation, work with the broker involved, and track up to delivery to ensure successful and timely customs clearance of product.
Audit Domtar process and procedure document for shipments ensuring customs compliance. A customs audit involves verifying random samples of transaction from order to cash (ex. declared value, HS code classification, product description, duty and tax, audit trail consistency, applicable free trade agreements/certificates in place)
Manage free trade certificate of origin, internal (Domtar's products) and external (suppliers/vendors): Take appropriate measures with suppliers for non-valid certificate.
Keep abreast of new/revised regulations in countries where Domtar has a business interest and evaluate its impact. Validate impact on the business, analyze risks (financial, business, regulatory, security) and make recommendation & best practices & required changes to Senior Manager & Customs & International Trade Compliance.
Key Skill Sets:
Communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
Working knowledge of the pulp and paper industry and ability to grasp new concepts easily.
Ability to interact appropriately with all levels of government leaders and business executives.
Ability and willingness to travel to facilities and government and association offices.
Minimum Qualifications:
3 to 5 years' experience in pulp and paper manufacturing industry.
Certified Customs Specialist designation - Canada or US. If not certified, must be certified in one country within the first 12 months in the role.
Proficient in Canadian and US Customs laws/regulations and solid knowledge of international trade.
Understanding of customs valuation, tariff classification, rules of origin, marking rules, documentation requirement, and entry requirements.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in English is essential, French an asset.
Ability to learn technical requirements quickly.
Proficiency with Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint is required.
Proficiency with Domtar's ERP an asset.
