Fairbanks Morse is looking for a Quality Engineer to join our team. The Quality Engineer will spearhead incoming quality control and interface with suppliers to qualify new part and drive root cause corrective action as needed. The Quality Engineer resolves quality issues and implements process improvements. Additionally, this role creates comprehensive document packages to third party oversight bodies for new engines.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Create, interpret, comply with Quality Assurance Program standards
Provide local quality leadership and expertise by interfacing with the FMD Direct Layered Accountability process: daily huddle to provide countermeasures for operator and manager issues and investigate shop floor issues, providing solutions for identified part and process deficiencies
Disposition nonconforming product, implement effective defect containment, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence of the problem
Investigate and ensure closure of customer product quality complaints and reported quality issues
Initiate engineering change orders to correct deficiencies and ensure acceptance criteria are clearly defined within engineering specifications and drawings, manufacturing job routers, and quality control documents
Assess and enhance internal and supplier process controls and capabilities to ensure product is manufactured in accordance with requirements
Perform product source surveillance and source inspections at supplier sites
Perform quality assurance program audits, including 10CFR50 Appendix B audits, Commercial Grade Surveys, and internal quality program audits
Monitor, analyze, and maintain localized quality metrics and objectives
Support and implement the policies, procedures, systems, and programs required to meet department and company objectives
Complete and remain current on all regulatory and company training
Review incoming material to ensure it meets documented standards and requirements
Lead and Facilitate 8-Step Problem solving teams to resolve acute or chronic sources of scrap, rework, or process deviations, or to capitalize on improvement opportunities
Perform other related duties and assignments as required
Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field, or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
Possess a high degree of problem-solving skill through application of basic quality tools
Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment; Minimum of 2 years
Understanding of common metals manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, forging, cutting, welding
Ability to make daily data driven decisions
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including weld symbology and GD&T
Ability read, comprehend, and assess industrial specific standards
Ability to understand the theory of operation of complex, highly engineered assemblies
Possess demonstrated excellent technical verbal and written communication skills
Action-oriented with the ability and drive to establish working relationships with people at all levels, internally and externally, to achieve positive results
Proven ability to effectively interact with other functional areas within a corporation (Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Supply Chain, IT, Field Service, etc.)
Proficient in Windows and MS Office applications
Travel: Approx. 10%, including some day trips and some overnight.
