Location: Worcester, MA Category: Staff and Administrators Posted On: Wed Mar 5 2025 Job Description: The Senior Assistant Director of Financial Assistance is responsible for all aspects of financial aid administration, including prioritizing the students and parents in our care, while ensuring compliance with federal and state aid regulations and University policies. File reading and counseling duties are shared among a group of talented colleagues who act as sounding boards and mentors. This person is also the liaison with the Study Abroad Office and the DOS Emergency Fund Committee.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsible for a student applicant caseload of approximately 1700 applicant and 500 continuing undergraduate students, includes reviewing all aid applications for accuracy and validity of information while simultaneously performing both institutional and federal need analysis calculations, making financial aid awards according to University policy and federal and state funding regulations, including ensuring satisfactory academic standards are met for current students, as well as review all aid appeals for students in the caseload. (40%)Responsible for counseling students and families on the financial aid application process, availability of funding sources including both merit-based and need-based aid, available financing options including payment plan and alternative loan options and be able to discuss in detail how the aid award was determined through needs analysis methodologies and institutional policies. (20%) Responsible for a summer student applicant caseload of approximately 250 students combined through the Graduate school/programs and SPS, managing the full review of aid applications as well as award notifications, working with the Associate Director to set aid disbursement dates for this population and maintaining communications with appropriate departments regarding financial aid policies and procedures applicable to this population. (10%) Coordinate with Study Abroad Office to counsel students and revise awards as necessary. (15%)Liaison with DOS Care Team to review and distribute emergency funding to students. (5%)Along with Director, calculate and communicate VA benefits information to the Registrar's office. Update awards and communicate with students and families with questions. (5%)Represent the University in various capacities at both on and off-campus programs and meetings, as well as attend various professional development workshops and required trainings locally and regionally. (5%)
Job Requirements: Bachelor's Degree required as well as 3-5 years of progressive Financial Aid Office experience, preferably at an institution utilizing both IM and FM needs analysis methodologies.Requires solid understanding of federal and state student financial aid regulations, strong communication skills, counseling and advising skills, willingness to be an active team participant, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and experience with computerized financial aid systems. Significant experience using PowerFAIDS, Banner or other financial aid processing softwareOccasional evening or weekend work required
