Water Quality Temp at City of Ann Arbor in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Job Description:

Starting hourly rate: $19.63

Schedule: Part-time, 10 month duration

Nature of Work:

The Water Quality Temp will work under the supervision of the Drinking Water Quality Manager in the office, treatment plant, and laboratory environments.

Will perform tasks including, but not limited to:

• Water chemistry analyses and research projects, including plan development, sample collection in rivers and the water treatment plant, sample analysis, sample shipping, data collection and analysis, and writing internal and external progress reports

• Research and analysis of plant and pilot data, historical records and information, etc.

• Review of documents

• Collaboration and communication with external partners

• Development of internal and external reports, documentation, templates, and presentations

• Source water protection tasks to update or implement Ann Arbor’s Surface Water Intake Protection Plan and Wellhead Protection Plan

Required Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing or having completed an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology, Ecology, Data Science, or related field

• Previous experience in water treatment or water chemistry and laboratory

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and general computer skills

• Strong communication skills, oral and written

• Good organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience at the City of Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant

• Pursuing a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology, Ecology, Data Science, or a related field

• Hands-on experience with water treatment, water chemistry, or water microbiology in a laboratory setting or other hands-on setting

• Experience in data analysis, data science, and/or statistical analysis

• Familiar with R software for data analysis or other computer programming experience
