Job Description:

The Heavy Civil Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of large-scale heavy civil construction projects, including but not limited to highways, bridges, underground utilities, grading, and other infrastructure work. This position requires a strong understanding of construction procedures, safety regulations, and the ability to manage and lead large, diverse teams. The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Project Oversight: Oversee all aspects of the heavy civil construction project, ensuring it progresses according to schedule and within budget.


  • Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the activities of field crews, subcontractors, and vendors. Ensure efficient work and positive team dynamics.


  • Safety Compliance: Enforce all safety policies and ensure that work is performed in accordance with OSHA regulations and other local or state regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections.


  • Quality Control: Monitor and inspect construction work to ensure quality standards are met and work is completed according to project specifications.


  • Scheduling & Coordination: Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring all milestones are met. Adjust schedules as necessary to accommodate unforeseen delays or challenges.


  • Budget Management: Assist in managing project costs, track expenses, and ensure projects stay within financial expectations.


  • Problem Solving: Identify potential issues or delays early and implement solutions to mitigate any risks to the project timeline.


  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project progress, safety logs, and material usage. Provide regular reports to upper management on project status and potential concerns.


  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients. Be the primary point of contact for the project's on-site activities.


Qualifications:



  • 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years in a superintendent role.

  • Strong understanding of civil construction processes, including earthwork, paving, utilities, and concrete work.

  • Proven experience managing large teams and coordinating multiple subcontractors.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of construction safety standards and procedures.

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with construction software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.

  • Relevant certifications such as OSHA 30, CPR, First Aid, or other industry-specific credentials are a plus.


Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and in a construction site environment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate construction sites.
