Qualifications



Bridge CAD Designer

RS&H is seeking a Bridge CAD Designer to join our Transportation Practice in our St. Charles, IL, Chicago, IL, or Springfield, IL office!

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be involved in projects with our Illinois Bridge and National Bridge Structures Teams. This position will be responsible for developing 2D and/or 3D plans and details in collaboration with engineers and other CAD designers for a variety of structures across multiple disciplines. This position will also be responsible for assisting less experienced bridge engineers and CAD Designers with CAD standards and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare detailed drawings and details as part of project deliverables for bridges, retaining walls, and miscellaneous structures for highway transportation and aviation clients.
  • Prepare conceptual plans and figures for proposals and reports.
  • Prepare both 2D and 3D plan deliverables as defined by client requirements.
  • Follow the applicable drafting standards as defined by the project manager.
  • Develop and maintain internal structural CAD library databases.
  • Review survey data to identify missing information or inconsistent data.
  • Assist with bridge inspections, condition assessment, and development of bridge condition reports.
  • Assist with engineering services during the construction phase of projects including review of shop drawings and contractor submittals.
  • Remains knowledgeable of all applicable State DOT, Tollway, and aviation drafting standards and details (i.e. Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, etc.).
  • Develops and expands CAD expertise and skill.
  • Provides CAD guidance to junior bridge engineers and CAD designers.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and three years' experience supporting AEC software, including experience in the Bentley software portfolio and with complementary tools such as, Autodesk, ESRI, computational design tools, visualization, etc., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • IDOT and Illinois Tollway experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret as-built plans for existing structures.
  • Strong working knowledge of Bently (ORD and OBM) and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented highly desirable.
  • Strong sense and commitment to CAD standards and procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Must have the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision as well as part of team.
