Salary: $125,000.00 - $130,000.00 /Annually. The final pay for this position will vary based on geographic location and candidate experience relative to what the company reasonably anticipates for this position.

Summary of Position:

This role is onsite in Fremont CA. The Sr R&D Engineer will report to the Director of R&D, the Senior R&D Engineer responsible for managing projects and producing technical results to advance the development, implementation, and/or commercialization of new products and processes for dental and orthodontic applications.

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Lead and conduct compounding, formulating, and testing of polymeric materials, with an in-depth focus on polymer melt processing techniques.
  • Prepare polymer/composite formulations and develop processes suitable for scaling internally and externally while meeting requirements of customer applications.
  • Conduct literature research and rapidly become expert in new materials science areas.
  • Identify and source equipment required for various processes and operations.
  • Identify and work with academic partners to conduct research collaboration.
  • Identify and work with vendors/suppliers to modify or scale up of materials and processes.
  • Develop IP and conduct suitable studies/tests to support patent filings.
  • Follow the company’s product development process, including FDA Design Controls to successfully drive project goals and milestones.
  • Develop and implement test plans for technical work leading to product. improvements or verification. This includes short term test plans and complex project planning for milestones and deliverables.

Non-essential Functions and Duties:

  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Other task as assigned

Physical Attributes:

  • Observe and hear warning signs and signals within all areas of the company
  • Stand, Walk, or Sit up to 8 hours a day (with periodic breaks allowed)
  • Wear synthetic gloves
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an Office and Lab
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to dust
  • The noise level in the work environment is consistently moderate
  • The employee will work in a fast-paced, team environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or related field)
  • 5+ years’ experience in industrial research and development
  • 5+ years’ experience with polymers formulation, testing, processes, and characterization
  • 5+ years’ experience with material structure-property relationship and material characterization methods
  • Strong project management and technical leadership expertise
  • Excellent written, verbal, and collaborative communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering (Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or related field)
  • Experience in the medical device industry
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and Design of Experiment techniques.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and willingness to take hands on work.
  • Possesses versatility to contribute to manual, abstract, creative and communication challenges.
  • Ability to contribute to abstract technical goals as well as immediate.
  • Ability to provide guidance to junior associates
