Job Description:

Job Summary

As an API Technical Product Manager, you will be responsible for driving the API strategy and roadmap, ensuring that our API products are aligned with both business goals and technical requirements. Reporting to the Ecosystem Architect, you will act as the bridge between engineering teams, stakeholders, and customers to deliver high-quality, reliable, and easy-to-use APIs. This role requires strong technical acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable API features and enhancements.


Responsibilities:


  • API Strategy & Roadmap Development:
    • Define the API product vision, strategy, and roadmap in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and business stakeholders.
    • Analyze customer needs, market trends, and competitor APIs to shape product features and prioritize enhancements.


  • Technical Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Serve as the technical expert and champion for the API product, providing leadership and guidance to engineering and development teams.
    • Collaborate with software architects and engineers to understand technical limitations, propose innovative solutions, and make informed decisions on API design and architecture.
    • Ensure that APIs are developed according to industry best practices for scalability, security, and performance.


  • API Documentation & User Experience:
    • Define clear and comprehensive API documentation that facilitates ease of use for internal and external developers.
    • Collaborate with the business units and customers to improve API usability, adoption, and overall developer satisfaction.


  • Product Lifecycle Management:
    • Manage the full product lifecycle, from ideation and design through to deployment and iteration based on user feedback and market needs (voice of customer).
    • Ensure that the APIs are integrated and tested across all relevant systems and services, both internally and externally.


  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders regarding API product updates, features, and issues.
    • Communicate the API vision, progress, and technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


  • Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement:
    • Define governance policy to ensure API quality. Monitor and report on compliance.
    • Define migration plans and versioning to create a consistent API design.
    • Continuously gather feedback, track usage patterns, and implement improvements to enhance API performance and functionality.


  • Compliance & Security:
    • Ensure that all APIs meet security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
    • Work closely with security teams to define API authentication, authorization, and encryption mechanisms.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience (3+ years) as a Technical Product Manager, Product Manager, or similar role with a focus on API products.
  • Strong understanding of API design principles (REST, WebSockets, etc.), specifications (OpenAPI, etc), architecture, , and best practices.
  • Familiarity with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Postman, AWS API Gateway) and API testing tools (e.g., Swagger, Insomnia, Postman).
  • Hands-on experience with coding/scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with API authentication mechanisms (e.g., OAuth, JWT, API keys) and data security protocols.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering value to users.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to driving results and problem-solving.
  • (Highly desired) Knowledge of data centers including Thermal, Power, Networking and management.
  • (Highly desired) Experience working with partner integrations or third-party APIs.
  • (Highly desired) Experience with API versioning, deprecation strategies, and lifecycle management.
