Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:
Position Summary: Working together with the department supervisor, is responsible for ensuring the staff accurately enters patient, client, billing and test information into the Laboratory Information System in a timely manner. Adheres to and enforces departmental policies and procedures to include confidentiality, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.
Principal Responsibilities:
Utilizes job knowledge, judgment, and problem solving skills to ensure quality. Ensures staff:
Accurately enters all required information presented on CPL or client specific requisitions into the laboratory information system.
Recognizes when information presented on requisitions is unclear and ambiguous. Knows and takes appropriate corrective action.
Participates in departmental quality assurance practices.
Follows all departmental policies and procedures related to data entry
Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
Oversee day-to-day operation
Monitor team performance and report on metrics
Motivate team members
Discover training needs and provide coaching
Encourage creativity and risk-taking
Recognizes personal limitations and seeks guidance from supervisors or managers when needed.

Communicates with laboratory staff to ensure the highest level of quality for each order entered or received
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to customers.
Follows all company policies and procedures
Enthusiastically performs miscellaneous duties with completion in a designated time frame.
Supports Data Entry Supervisor in duties and/or functions.
Coordinates training across the department, including new hire and remedial training. Tracks all training paperwork and submits to Supervisor when complete.
Updates Procedure and Training Manuals as needed with Supervisor.
Discusses discipline issues with Supervisor immediately.
Scope: Promotes quality patient/client relations and creates supportive climate by serving as a role model. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory. Adheres to all laboratory policies and regulations. Works with minimal direction, consults with technologists and supervisors as needed. Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and the laboratory customers. Operates general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards, and CRT. Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone and computer methods.
Education:
Minimum - High School Diploma
Preferred - Associate degree or higher degree
Experience: Data Entry experience in a production environment, preferably in a laboratory/health care setting, but not required
Skills:
Minimum - Typing skill of a minimum of 60 wpm; proficiency with 10 key
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory customers
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Data Entry Supervisor.
Physical Demands: Requires the ability to sit for extended period of times at a data entry station using keyboards, CRTs, and other peripheral laboratory equipment. Requires the ability to shift points of vision and focus from documents to CRTs. Requires the ability to sit in and employ ergonomic positions and techniques to avoid repetitive motion or stress injuries. May require some pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching above shoulder height, grasping with both hands, pinching with thumb and forefinger, twisting with hand and wrist.
Environmental Demands: Works in temperature controlled environment with constant exposure to biological and chemical hazards. May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures in an emergency situation. Maybe required to work with time constraints and crisis situations.
