PRODUCTION MANAGER
2 Positions Available
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
JOB PURPOSE: This role is a developmental Supervisory role for the Machine Shop. The hired Candidate will go through Basic Supervisor Training and then a rotation of each Value Stream in the Machine Shop as they prepare for their role as a Production Manager supporting off shift Operations. This role also serves as direct Value Stream coverage during sickness or vacation days for other Production Managers. This position will train primarily on 1st shift, with opportunities on the off shift as well. The intent of this role is to better position the candidate for an off-shift Production Manager opportunity in the future.
JOB RELATED STATISTICS: Personnel: Will supervise up to 15 employees.
What you will do:
Complete 2 phases of the Machine Shop Production Manager training program
2-3 week training rotations through 9 Machine Shop Value Streams Direct oversight of a 1st shift production Value Stream
Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor
Eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean production environment
Determines processing needs to ensure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided to meet production requirements
Daily tie-in with production management to designate workload, priorities and sequence of work assigned.
Determines overtime need, determines priorities when resources are insufficient, and decides when disciplinary action is necessary.
Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
Works to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities.
Ensures the quality of product produced and conformance to Caterpillars Quality Policy while maintaining cost and continuing the value streams Built In Quality (BIQ) journey.
Ensure necessary parts and materials are ordered and distributed in a timely/efficient manner. Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, CQMS/ISO certification, etc.
Responsible for training and development of staff, time keeping, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, and ensuring consistent application of organizational needs.
Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with others, work as a part of a team and have the ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers
Should possess effective motivational skills, a high degree of initiative and a strong client/customer focus
Must be willing to work outside of normal work hours including overtime and alternate shifts.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree or actively pursuing a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Previous experience within machine shop operations and a familiarity of machine shop equipment, tooling, and processes

Production Training: Working Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for delivering formal and informal training on the safe and efficient operation of production machinery; ability to conduct effective formal and situation-specific training.

Summary Pay Range: $79,800.00 - $119,760.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
