Job Summary
The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for supporting the anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in all of their clinical roles, including the set-up, care and maintenance of all anesthesia equipment and for the basic testing and maintenance of anesthesia related equipment and supplies. Additionally, he/she may be asked to participate in the evaluation of new anesthesia products, equipment and/or supplies. Essential Functions: • Provides general and specific assistance to the anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (and to the nursing staff when needed) on any and all clinical activities that do not involve the direct care of patients or the handling of medications (for which licensed professionals are required). • Cleans, cares for, and maintains all anesthesia equipment to ensure proper functioning. • Inventories and order supplies from purchasing, storeroom, and pharmacy as needed. • Works collaboratively with the hospital Purchasing and Biomedical Engineering Departments to arrange for preventive maintenance, scheduling of service contract QC inspections/repairs, as well as emergency repairs and requests for loaner equipment, etc. as needed. • Performs light maintenance and calibrations of equipment as specified by manufacturer and approved by the Biomedical Engineering Department. • Works with the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure compliance with JCAHO Standards. Checks and replaces gas tanks as needed. • Cleans and cares for all reusable and/or contaminated equipment according to established standards/policies and procedures. • Organizes and maintains records pertinent to stock data for verification and justification of budget. • Assists in the provision of basic nursing care to assigned patients. • Assists patients with activities of daily living; performs these activities for patients who are unable to care for themselves.
Qualifications
Qualifications Education • High School graduate or equivalent. Experience • Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician preferred. Knowledge and Skills • Must be self-directed and work well independently. • Adheres to hospital policies/procedures relative to vendors, evaluation of equipment, supplies, etc.
