Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assists in the daily operation of the Animal Facility, in feeding of and caring for animals used in experiments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consistently implements sterile techniques using a barrier microisolator cage system or gnotobiotic isolator.
Tracks animal health or illness and notifies supervisors and animal care staff of observations.
Assists in the preparation of supply canisters for autoclaving to provide food, water, bedding, and cages for use in gnotobiotic isolators, and their connection and movement of supplies into gnotobiotic isolators after autoclaving. Follows core SOPs for canister preparation and sterilization.
Assists in gnotobiotic isolator setup for experiments, and breakdown after experiments, and in the transfer of gnotobiotic mice into newly setup isolators.
Assists in the setup of sterile containment cages and to assist senior husbandry personnel in transfers of sterile mice into cages within a biosafety cabinet.
Maintains records such as animal inventory, Animal Husbandry, and Room Maintenance Records for each assigned room.
Reports all facility and environmental issues to the animal technician supervisor.
Attends staff and educational meetings as scheduled by supervisory staff.
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Previous Experience with Animals: 0-1 year
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Detail-oriented.
Multitasking skills.
Long periods of standing and/or moving.
Good communications skills in English, both oral and written.
