Job Summary
The Palliative Care Service provides patient and family care that optimizes quality of life by anticipating, preventing, and treating suffering through the continuum of illness.


The chaplain is a member of the Palliative Care clinical inpatient, emergency room and supportive care unit teams within the Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine. The palliative care team provides specialized, multidisciplinary medical care for people with serious illnesses. The medical care is focused on improving quality of life for both the patient and the family-providing relief from the symptoms, pain, and stresses of a serious illness.


Integral to the practice of palliative care is tending to the spiritual and religious needs of our patients and their families, and chaplaincy is a key and necessary element of the MGH Palliative Care team's interdisciplinary care model. Chaplaincy care is grounded in initiating, developing, and deepening, and bringing to an appropriate close, a mutual and empathetic relationship with the patient, family, and/or staff. The Division of Palliative Care & Geriatric Medicine seeks a chaplain capable of working inpatient, emergency room and supportive care unit. The palliative care chaplain will work as a team member in accordance with the both the Palliative Care Division and Chaplaincy Department's Mission and Vision Statements, as well as Administrative Policies and Procedures.



Qualifications


Qualifications:


Required: Master of Divinity (MDiv)


Preferred: Certification with Association of Professional Chaplains, Neshama Association of Jewish Chaplains or National Association of Catholic Chaplains, and Palliative Care and Hospice Advanced Certification.


Required: Commitment to be board certified by within three years of hire.


Minimum of 1 year of experience in hospital chaplaincy; preferably in a large academic institution
