We are looking to add new talent to our expanding in-house resilience team! We are currently seeking a highly motivated Project Resilience Specialist Resilience Consultant to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. The selected candidate will join the Resilience Team to support existing and upcoming resilience projects for large corporate clients, developers, and public agency clients. Projects include infrastructure resilience planning, emergency transportation planning, disaster response planning, building, infrastructure, and campus multi-hazard and vulnerability assessments, climate adaptation and resilience planning, development and design. The portfolio is predominantly focused on West Coast (CA, HI, OR, WA) clients, supporting natural hazards resilience needs. Our various projects are at the forefront of this developing market, and we often develop scope and grant applications with clients to meet their resilience needs. Project needs are varied. The majority of current work is performed out of the West Coast offices but is supported nationally.

This is a full-time position located in our Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Costa Mesa, CA, San Diego, CA, Oakland, CA or Walnut Creek, CA office.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:

  • Provide technical support to our multidisciplinary teams consisting of planners, scientists, and engineers among others on projects that include seismic hazards, wildfire risks, coastal studies, hydrology and hydraulics, flood risk management, and nature-based solutions on a range of technical deliverables including risk and vulnerability assessments, solution development and evaluation, and implementation planning.
  • Gather and analyze data, including relevant geohazards and climate change data to support the development of technical deliverables.
  • Support capacity building activities including development of decision-support tools, strategy development, and community/partner engagement.
  • Interpret and apply applicable local, regional, state, and federal climate adaptation and resilience guidance, policy, or regulations.
  • Provide other research and writing tasks as necessary to support a wide range of climate adaptation and resilience planning tasks and overall plan development.
  • Assist with the development of clear and coherent reports, plans and other tasks in support of development of resilience plans at a range of scales, from facility-level risk mitigation projects to regional resiliency action plans and national portfolio planning.
  • Support public outreach and engagement initiatives using a range of techniques to promote equity and inclusivity, such as structured interviews, surveying, presentations, facilitations and workshops.
  • Execute task management including organizing project team meetings, completing technical analysis and writing tasks, and managing task schedule requirements.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and flexibility within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment where the individual’s scope of work constantly evolves in line with client needs and teaming needs at any given time.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental or climate science, environmental policy and planning, natural resource management, geotechnical, civil or environmental engineering, geology, oceanography, or a closely related discipline.
  • Recent experience consulting on vulnerability and risk assessments that consider an array of climate and geohazard impacts, including sea level rise, precipitation, wildfire, temperature, seismic and development of adaptation and resilience strategies to reduce impacts.
  • Preference for 3+ years of experience developing climate risk assessments and adaptation plans.
  • Preference for 2+ years of experience in a consulting firm or similar fluid client-driven workplace.
  • Essential skills include critical thinking, complex problem-solving, judgment and decision-making, oral and written communication, systems analysis, and active listening.
  • Experience in ESRI ArcGIS and other spatial analytical systems is highly desirable. Experience using StoryMaps or developing web-based plans desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Experience with quantitative/statistical programs desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and written) technical and scientific information to non-experts in a manner that is clear and compelling.
  • Experience in related fields (e.g. land use planning, natural resource management).
  • Current knowledge of federal and state emergency management, climate, and resilience-related laws and regulations, as well as best practice adaptation standards and guidance.
  • Knowledge of state and federal resilience grant programs desirable.
  • Ability to work with a team consisting of several technical disciplines.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in industry standard software.

The salary range for this position in Seattle, WA, Costa Mesa, CA, San Diego, CA, Oakland, CA and Walnut Creek, CA is $80,000 - $105,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market. This role is eligible to participate in the company’s discretionary bonus program. This role may be eligible to receive a sign-on bonus.
