Responsibilities

The Senior Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, overseeing, and leading projects from ideation through to completion. In addition, this role will help provide technical insights to further support the delivery of the project and the business area.

This role requires interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders, managing several moving project parts simultaneously. The Project Manager ensures that all project objectives are met and that projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. The ideal candidate will be able to perform these duties satisfactorily:

Project Planning & Initiation:

  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and budget estimates.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.

Project Execution:

  • Coordinate and manage project team members, including assigning tasks and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and track project progress against the plan, make adjustments as necessary to ensure project success.
  • Facilitate regular status meetings, ensuring clear communication among team members and stakeholders.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate verification techniques.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project objectives.
  • Monitor risk factors and implement risk response plans as needed.
  • Ensure that all project risks are documented, communicated, and reviewed regularly.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring that expenditures are within approved limits.
  • Monitor project expenses and financial performance, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure cost-effective project resources.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related communications.
  • Prepare and deliver regular project updates, reports, and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure that project deliverables meet their needs and requirements.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that all project deliverables meet quality standards and align with project objectives.
  • Implement quality control processes and conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Facilitate post-project evaluations and identify areas for improvement.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, coach, and motivate project team members, fostering a collaborative and productive working environment.
  • Identify training and development needs within the project team and provide support to enhance team performance.
  • Address any team conflicts or issues, ensuring that they are resolved promptly and effectively.

Project Closure:

  • Ensure that all project documentation is completed and archived appropriately.
  • Conduct project post-mortems to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Ensure that all project deliverables are handed over to the appropriate stakeholders or clients and that all contractual obligations are met.


Qualifications



Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from start to finish.
  • 5+ years of experience in the utility industry.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering results.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, Asana).
  • Strong financial management skills, with experience in budget planning and cost control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience in managing client relationships.
  • Deep understanding of relevant technologies (e.g., cloud computing, software development lifecycles, IT infrastructure).
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies.
